Hi ladies!!

Last year, I graduated with my Bachelors. It took me a long time to get this done. I’m a first generation college student. I was really alone in the whole process of figuring out college and working full time/multiple jobs to support myself and my education. On top of that, during my last year of school, I ended a seven year relationship. The last two years of that relationship, we had moved to a new state and we were also engaged.

I ended it because I felt it in my gut that he was not for me. I literally did everything for him. I was essentially his mother, therapist, helped him with his bills, helped him apply for jobs, and took him to his job interviews. When we moved states, he didn’t try to make new friends, and when I made friends that wanted to meet him, he didn’t want to go and support me. He was constantly negative and putting me down. He was always playing video games and was happier doing that than spending time with me. I was always trying to justify his behavior when he wasn’t living up to my standards. I just couldn’t give him the benefit of the doubt anymore.

When I ended things, I was scared, I was sad, but I did what was best for me. I’m now living on my own, I have a great job, great friends, and I’ve taken self care to an all time high. Making sure my precious energy and time is not wasted.

So getting this degree has been a big milestone in my life and I want to continue with my education in hopes of one day getting my PhD.

I majored in General Science and minored in Sociology. I want to get into a masters program either in Social Work with an LCSW or Clinical Psychology.

For those of you that have gotten this far in your education or further, how did the process for you go? Did you apply for scholarships to assist with college fees? Did you have anyone help you through the process? Do you feel like the investment was it worth it?

I’m a long time lurker. I’m starting to come out of my shell when it comes to posting on Reddit and I have you all to thank. I feel really comfortable coming here with this question. This sub is full of the sisters I’ve always wanted. I would love to hear all of your experiences!!
