I know, I know. OLD is not recommended on here, and it has not done me much good. BUT with the inability to date anyway, I thought I’d work out my flirting abilities and practice spotting LVMs and the occasional HVM.
So, I matched with a guy on Hinge. I am getting my PhD, and he is a professor in my field at a nearby university. He actually got his BA in my current dept and was supposedly tight with some of the professors (yeah, okay). There has been a lot to discuss and so far no red flags...
Until today. In order to protect myself from being catfished, I decided to do some research and find his faculty profile at his current university... and there wasn’t one matching his name in the department he said he worked in. I started to get concerned because there were two older men with the same first name (one encroaching 50 and one who was 60). I am 29. This guy claimed to be the same age in his profile, had a ton of pics, and none of these older men looked similar.
THEN I remembered: he said he received his PhD from the same university as one of my old pals from my Master’s program. Sure enough, my pal didn’t have his Facebook friends on private. I easily found the Hinge guy and turns out he is starting a new job in another state (that is quite far away) in August. This means he will likely move in a month or two.
This man is clearly just looking for a hook up, and most definitely will not admit that. Was likely going to lure me into a date with intent to sleep with me and ghost. There would be no other point to him dating if he is moving so soon. Ladies, do research. These men are trying to play us.
