My boyfriend and I are both gluten-free, and he’s also lactose intolerant. We live in Europe so bread, pastries and such are a HUGE thing. He’s been gluten-free for several years, but I’ve been gluten-free for less then a year so it’s still a little frustrating sometimes.

We both love to cook and cook together, he cooks better than me and I like to bake, but obviously there are things that we just can’t eat anymore, or at least, not the original versions. Last week, I told him I missed pastries, that I wished I could have a breakfast with my coffee and some fresh pastries. I told him “just like that” because we were talking about food, without really thinking about it.

On sunday, he woke me up with kisses and told me he had a surprise. He took me to the living room, where breakfast was ready : he had bought chestnut bread, and a chocolate brioche to share, he had made my coffee just how I like it and cooked some eggs in a specific way that he knew I wanted.

Food is part of our love language. We always cook together or for each other. I’m trying to learn the FDS way - trying not to be a pickme like I used to be in my previous relationships, and I don’t know if this is off but it felt so good. It may sounds for a little thing, but we’re both students and you can guess that this bakery is pretty expensive, plus he planned everything beforehand because I know this bakery isn’t opened on Sundays.

He’s the first person who does this kind of things for me, and I’m trying not to let it go to my head too much - it’s a very sweet gesture, but also, I should expect things like this to happen because it’s what you’re supposed to do for your partner - but it made me feel so loved and cared for.

Feel like this is a win !
