My friend fell into exactly this type of trap. She met him on tinder, couldn’t find anything about him on social media, no accounts, no nothing. Later found out he lied about his name by going through his electricity bill. He used a fake name on tinder… 🤮 who knows how many other shady dating accounts he had…

I was talking to a guy online at the very start of the pandemic last year before I had found FDS. He lived 2.5 hours from me (which was red flag number one). He actually messaged me first on the app. However his profile was 'hidden'. I knew because when you tried to search his username it wouldn't come up. I could only view him by clicking on his profile in his message, in my inbox. When I asked him about it he said he was 'sick of getting messages from unattractive women'....yeah ok🙄. More than likely he was hiding from a spouse or partner. But like I said this was pre FDS and I didn't know any better. We talked a LOT on the phone, another red flag because we hadn't met or had an actual date. He told me early on how anti social media he was because he's seen it 'cause problems' for people. When I asked him his birthday one day he straight up texts me a legit copy of his birth certificate. Name, age, childhood location matched. When I tried to Google search him I got nothing in terms of social media. Literally not one profile....nothing. Unless he had a different name and email linked, which wouldn't show. I did find some of his family on Facebook and not one photo or mention of him ANYwhere to be seen which was bizarre. I ended up cutting communication when he switched up on me one day. We were discussing meeting and all of a sudden he wanted me to do all the work, drive to him, plan a date etc (when he had said the opposite for months). He started raising his tone at me and then I had it. Blocked and deleted, bye bye scrote. Clearly I had hesitation meeting him for awhile. My gut never felt right. When we had discussed children one day, I mentioned I never wanted to have any. I am in my late 30s, love children but do not want any. He tried to convince me I'd be an old alone cat lady without having a family 🙄 (another bold red flag). Don't know what possessed me to keep talking to him for as long as I did...I'm literally embarrassed for myself 🤦‍♀️

As a gen z young woman, I like that my boyfriend uses social media and has accounts and such, but rarely/never posts. On Instagram he only follows his friends and people he knows in real life as well as meme pages etc. Has never followed any random Instagram models or famous influencer women, even before meeting me. I’ve heard about a lot of women my age having their boyfriends do a “social media purge” when they get into a relationship such as unfollowing all the softcore porn Instagram accounts with mostly naked women, all the big butt influencers etc, and I can only imagine how sick I would feel getting into a relationship with a man who followed all the kind of shit publicly and now expecting him to delete it all 🤢🤢🤮

No social media presence at all is suspicious, as much as I would like to appreciate it at face value I wouldn't. I don't particularly care for social media and I value privacy and engaging in the world around me, but even I have accounts for following bands or selling stuff. Men lie to have sex, that's always the more likely scenario.
ETA: if he's a vetted HVM who just doesn't dig social media, I think that's awesome though. A lot of what's on social media is toxic garbage, and so much of popular culture is misogynistic anyway, someone who purposefully chooses not to expose themselves to that toxicity is absolutely appealing! Someone who isn't always buried in their phone, someone who reads more books and watches more documentaries then they scroll. I don't think it's a sign that someone is a HVM, but I definitely prefer men who aren't swept up in vapid nonsense.
