I feel like since I discovered FDS I actually had the opposite realization. I dress up more and have for the first time in my life wear heels, paint my nails, and get my lashes done etc. It’s because it makes me feel so feminine and cute. I love the energy it cultivates with me. Best part is that society doesn’t expect a feminine girly girly like me to be an educated woman in the fire service with weird hobbies and big plans who actively chooses to be single and is working on getting her own place. It really shows that not only women, but all women even the stereotypical feminine ones can do anything. It would be insulting for me to act more like a man just to fit in or try to prove a point that I am not their toy. That in my personal opinion is submitting to patriarchy because it shows that I have to be a man to be taken seriously and that dressing up makes me their toy. People need to learn to stop associating dresses heels and cute nails with incompetent women who just want to be some mans property and have babies. We can fight all that toxic mess by show up up however the hell we want to dress and kicking ass and not taking any shit from patriarchy.

If you want to avoid dressing stereotypical feminine because you believe it is feeding toxic societal beliefs, that’s totally fine, it makes sense to me somewhat although I don’t agree personally, please don’t shame other women though for doing their thing that might be a form of empowerment. That woman there is beautiful even if she dresses for herself or to please society. Don’t bring other women down, it breaks my heart.

So let me get this straight:

On a reddit that’s focused on building women up and finding themselves and their worth in themselves, I’m in the wrong for saying that it’s anti-feminist to live my life according to my self-actuated wants and needs and feeling and beliefs and desires and not have another person tell me how to be a woman?

I have no qualms about how you or OP want to live your lives. You are doing what makes you feel secure in your identity. I don’t care if OP shaves all their hair off and go to live in the woods of Missouri and changes their name to Broomhilda. If that is how they wish to express themselves, it’s not for me to tell them it makes them less of a woman.

Just like it’s not okay for OP to shit on the wants, likes, needs, and personal preferences of other woman just because they don’t agree with it.

Half the week I’m in dresses with my hair done and perfume on because that’s what I want to do with myself. Not because a man told me they prefer me that way. I’ve rarely seen another human being outside of my house in months. The other half of the week, I’m laid up on the couch in stained leggings and chip crumbs on my chest watching some house flipping show for hours.

And it’s not childish to be expected to be treated like a human being. Why am I expected to follow ANYONE’S expectations on how to be a woman? How is being told that wearing makeup and expressing myself the way I want to is wrong by other women any different than being told not wearing makeup and expressing myself the way I want to is wrong by men?

I mentioned mainly two things :

how feminists have criticized gendered roles, including feminity, since forever (something I mentioned because you said that it is anti feminist to be critical of it when it is not)
how the "I like it" is not an argument and I explained why by giving an example.

"I am not treated like a human being" is a reach and obviously guilt tripping.

Since the beginning you took everything personal and because your feelings are hurt you think you have the right to police and shame how the other poster expressed her opinion.

Either you have the right to do whatever you want without criticisms and everyone, including those who hurt your feelings can too, either the topic should be something else than "I like it so I am right".

Lastly, I think it is quite lame and dishonest to confuse criticisms with personal attacks. You victimize yourself and make it all about you and what dress you wear monday and tuesday but at no moment do you politicize your choices. You dont mention socialisation, gendered roles, nothing. So I dont see how you can act like feminism never criticized feminity or how everyone should do as you say just because you are hurt.
