Honestly, this is advice I’m sharing for anyone you meet that is self-righteous. We all fall short in areas of our lives, but the self-righteous man takes it to a new level.
What is self-righteousness? -When you believe your way of living is morally superior than another’s way of living and you impose your lifestyle onto someone. You can not live like someone and carry on about your day.
Can I have an example? -I had a friend in college that didn’t drink. I respected her choice when going out and never forced her to drink with me. But, she didn’t respect my choice to drink. Anytime we went out, it led to a lecture of why drinking is wrong, etc. and how she doesn’t drink. There was one time she had a sip of booze and said that “she wasn’t as bad as me”.
Needless to say, this attitude carried over to everything I did. I never felt like I could be myself and I was constantly criticized for even breathing. She even slut shammed me because my “body count was higher than hers”. We’re no longer friends.
So, what about men? Self-righteous men have a superiority complex. They think their standard is superior to yours. In my experience, men like this have a deep rooted insecurity, and are times, jealous at a woman that went out and lived their lives. They meet you and wonder how you got yours and you didn’t live like them. They’re usually out of your league also.
Signs/things to look out for -They tend to have PickMe women in their lives that enable their views (mom, friends, siblings, etc.) -They don’t have many friends. They all got fed up with him. Friends are not acquaintances or associates. Ask them how many friends that they really have... -You can call them out on their behavior that is clearly evident and they will tell you “I don’t do that.” or “I’m not as bad as you.” -They have controlling tendencies and will make it seem like they care for you. In reality, they want you to fit into their mold/way or life. -They feel their choices are superior to yours. -They tend to have Narc tendencies (not diagnosing people, there’s professionals for that, but they have some signs of it). -They grew up with critical parents or parents who boosted their ego too much. -Their social circle has never expanded. They only associate with people who are 100% like them. -If you fight back, they will turn it into a federal case.
What happens when you stay around too long? -Their toxic ways feed onto you. -You feel drained just interacting with them. -You begin to lose yourself. -You go into people pleasing mode to make them happy. They will never respect you. You don’t live like them, so they won’t respect you, sis. -Your self-esteem is crushed.
How can I spot this early on? -Simple, you can notice the self-righteous man early on. He talks about himself. A lot. How he does XYZ better than his friends/coworkers/family. -He starts criticizing you early on. It starts small then it will increase. -On a date, he will suggest* you don’t eat/drink/smoke/order a specific dish because he used to do it/doesn’t do it.
Can this person change? -Possible with professional help. They need to see a therapist. You are not responsible for their deep rooted insecurity.
TLDR: Avoid the self righteous man. Your self esteem and worth will thank you later. Feel free to add onto this.
