I'm not sure if this has been done before (if it has, I understand if this gets taken down), but several posts this week have gotten me thinking about creating a threat full of safety tips, resources, etc for women to have access to. Personally I feel this kind of information cannot be posted enough if it helps women to be able to stay safe and trust their instincts. I'll do my best to update the list as people add things to the comments. Open to formatting suggestions too!

Safety Tips

  • TRUST YOUR GUT: safety tips are not one size fits all and while you may hear time and time again "Just say no, walk away, etc", there are times when you will just know deep down that's not the approach to take and you should trust that feeling.

  • Get (and memorize) a second number: this can be using a second number app like Google Voice or having a burner phone. Make sure you have that number memorized. I saw a post where a woman gave her number and the guy called right there to make sure it was real. I'm a big proponent of having a second number because I've had a guy try to stalk and blackmail me using his contact suggestions on Facebook, luckily I was using my second number and it wasn't me who he saw in his suggestions.

  • Document and report harassment/stalking: this can help you or pentially other women in the long run if police have a paper trail of his history.

  • Check whether your area's emergency services have texting capabilities.

  • Always meet in a public place: don't go to his home, his car, your home or your car.

  • Be sure you know him well before moving in together.
