And by that, I mean you need to be with a man that you respect, because if you can't respect him, you will resent him and/or become disgusted with him.

It's hard to respect someone that doesn't respect you, and if you are someone with very low self worth, you need to be able to answer "yes" to the question of, "would I ever talk to or treat someone the way that he treats me?". Even if a part of you is blind to yourself being mistreated, or you rationalize/justify yourself being mistreated, surely you can still recognize whether or not you would treat someone else the same way you are being treated under the same circumstances.

As an example, if a man you are with is talking about how hot other girls are in front of you and bragging about how they are checking him out, you might want to rationalize and make excuses for him, but if you consider that you wouldn't be okay seeing someone do that to your friend, nor would you ever try to say similar things to your man knowing that it could make him insecure, you can deduce from his actions that he is not being respectful, and therefore is not someone you can respect as your man.

tl;dr: You need to be with a respectable man whose actions can carry the weight of their words.
