I totally support International Women's Day, Men's Day and every other day (Except for Christmas). The U.N. is not the only organization that has put out messaging like this. Many companies and subreddits have also co-opted Men's Day as means of reinforcing the false-dichotomy of toxic vs. "good" masculinity which ultimately serves to undermine gender equality.

Having said that, the point of this post is twofold:

Demonstrate why reframing the meaning of a day subverts it's purpose.
Show onlookers that most people in this sub are fair-minded and support Women's Day in ways that many of the YKW have never (and likely will never) support men's day.
To call into question the moral imperative that men ought never to bring emotional distress to women.
To transgress the social injunction against male-on-female offensiveness.**
To give myself a laugh at how ridiculous that stunt really was.

The goal of this post is less about humor and more about showing others why the actions by the U.N. and many YKW subs were troubling.

Since many people care about women's wellbeing to the extent that they are willing to applaud the repurposing of Men's Day for women's it seems reasonable that they will only comprehend the how bad this was by having it done to Women's Day.

Is my post offensive? Sure.

Is this post undermining Women's Day in light of the overwhelming amount of nods given by corporations, world leaders, professional organizations, educational institutions, NGOs and other subreddits?

No.

If there were another way to make my point I would have chosen it. But people don't seem to understand how terrible something is until it effects women.
