How can we improve?

I only vaguely remember the original post and so I had to go back and skim it to make sure I didn’t repeat any points that were made there. Anyway...

I think one way that we can improve is to stop any back-and-forth “slap fights” with feminism/feminists.

What I mean is that I see a lot of “look at what feminists did” posts. And indeed a lot of those posts do pony out harmful and demeaning things feminists and other women’s movements say and do to men. It is important to bring attention to that, and to acknowledge how it tarnishes the reputation and outlook on men in our society.

However...

After a certain point it stops being helpful and actually becomes harmful, for a number of reasons.

First of all, there comes a point where one has to admit that one is preaching to the proverbial choir when it comes to this. Most people here know that there is a rampant double standard when it comes to misogyny versus misandry and that it is robustly defended by men and women alike.

Constantly talking about it doesn’t actually do anything—it’s like the unfavorite child complaining about unfair treatment to the parent engaged in favoritism; at best it will be met with indifference and at worst it will incur punishment. What the mistreatment child needs to do is make plans to move out of the toxic household.

In the context of this situation complaints about unfair treatment of men vs women won’t sway most people. Instead there needs to be more talk of how to make concrete differences now that we have acknowledged the situation. Constant posts that merely complain about the problem crowd out opportunities for discussions of change.

Secondly, large quantities of these types of posts do the opposite of galvanizing people into working towards a solution. I feel like I’m parroting Andrew Tate’s stupid talking point about depression but please hear me out; that isn’t my intention.

What I’m saying is that there is a “Goldilocks Amount” of awareness of a societal issue that can inspire change, with anything more or less being harmful. If no one talks about how feminists tend to crap on men with little pushback then it will be dismissed outright and looked at as whining when it does come up. But if is all we talk about ad nauseum then it will seem like an overwhelming problem with no hope of ever being solved. It saps determination and drive to try since you are facing an indomitable problem after all.

Finally...

Constantly focusing on the ways feminists/women’s rights groups slight and wrong men creates an undercurrent of resentment towards women that can devolve into misogyny. This sub is overall good at ensuring this doesn’t happen often (and if it does, the infection is treated). But I’ve seen it happen much more strongly in other subs and once it takes hold it’s nearly impossible to shake loose. Heck, not just in subs; I’ve noticed my own dwindling compassion for women’s issues as a whole after being exposed to some of the darkest ways they talk about men and even celebrate our problems.

If we want to make this a movement in which men and women work together to understand each other and solve men’s issues then it’s imperative that some of that content is suppressed or at least avoided.

Well this is it for now. I have other ideas on how we can improve but I’ll just leave this here for now to test the waters and see how it is received.
