Is equality or equity feminism wrong, per se? I read through a comment chain about how you cannot be consistent with respect to being a feminist and not a misandrist.

I need help understanding this.

Equality feminism, per Wikipedia: Equality feminism is a subset of the overall feminism movement that focuses on the basic similarities between men and women, and whose ultimate goal is the equality of the sexes in all domains. This includes economic and political equality, equal access within the workplace, freedom from oppressive gender stereotyping, and an androgynous worldview.

This sounds just fine to me. I'm not going to talk about gender oppression, because even though this uses the word feminism, what little I've read about the principles of this is about gender stereotypes and differences being made equal.

In theory, a equality feminist would be something like Ruth Bader Ginsburg when she was fighting this case. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moritz_v._Commissioner was her first case.

An equality feminist, in my mind, is about eliminating gender differences where they are unnecessary.

So, a real equality feminism would oppose things like male circumcision, alimony as it is currently handled, and support things like able-bodied women having to participate in the draft, etc.

To me, this sounds like a perfectly viable and fair worldview.

I look at this in the lens not of oppression, but of different societal standards in different periods, and as we have evolved and society has improved, what we want and desire as people in multiple aspects has changed. From race to gender, the expectations of what works well and what needs to change have shifted over time.

There was a point where men are incapable of raising children, because that worked in the old days. Now, most people have realized that is dumb as fuck.

There was a point where women couldn't own property on their own, or vote, because the societal structure accommodated this fine. However, views changed and people decided to make that happen.

Equity feminism

This is a theory based discussion, I'm not looking to hear about shitty feminism now, or how certain non-gender equality or non-equity feminists opposed the right to vote.
