My stepfather routinely worked 60-70 hour weeks as a Physician. He was an absolute workhorse, and the most respected doctor in the region.

He also hated his job. (He worked almost exclusively with women.)

He was gone so often, especially when he was on call, that I barely had a relationship with him growing up. Sure, we had plenty, but I didn't have a Dad.

My stepdad lived for vacation, and all he talked about, from his early 30's onward, was retiring - in particular, at age 60. Then he would travel the world with my Mom.

My stepdad died at age 59 from Pancreatic cancer.

Anyone noticed that the minimum wage has barely rising at all in the last 20 years . Employers consistently require employees to work longer harder hours with low pay especially here in the states . Maybe the answer to the problem is men are starting wise up to the shitty deal we are being offered. Basically be a work slave be a slave to your wife and kids . I know more and more men who have either been wrecked by women (usually via cheating, divorce, or by making it hard for a man to see his own kids/poisoning the kids against them), or feel that they aren't desirable to women on a genetic level. I think a lot of guys are just doing what they want and have opted out of trying to do whatever it takes to impress women with social status or expensive material objects.

If you dont have a woman in your life, and you aren't chasing pussy....you end up renting a cheap place, drive a cheap car, and realize how little money you actually need to survive and have fun.

I aspire to be a NEET one day, right now i'm stuck in the cycle of work(and save) then live off the savings until they run out, then get another job and repeat the cycle. I'm alot happier than when I was working 60hours/week to give the girlfriend the finer things in life.

Mainstream media has been conveniently forgetting about the 2007-2008 economic crisis. The jobs market has been shit for 10 years and now the media is blaming us instead of providing solutions. They're angry that the majority of men mentioned in the article have gave up looking for work because they were pushed away in 2007-2008.

The employers killed mass employment and they rather have the unemployed die off via illness, suicide, or addiction than to start hiring and training.

People give up because the economy appears to be permanently broken. The average number of resumes per interview is about 50, and the average time unemployed is about half a year. I'm trying to move up the ladder by getting a job elsewhere, and there's fucking nothing. I can apply for dozens of jobs that I am very qualified for, and I hear nothing back.

It's interesting to read the comments posted on LinkedIn articles. People are fucking pissed. I've seen people write things like "death to HR" using their real names. Some people get sick of spending several hours per day to look for a job and still getting absolutely nothing.

Before I got my current job that's more of a passion that a job I claimed disability because of depression. Got 700 euros /month. Better than slaving myself at a shit job. Pursued my dream on the side and got the job I wanted.

If I didn't I would be still living with 700 euros/month because I don't care about slaving myself for society.

I work in IT. Been doing it for years and before that was the military. Current company asked me why I was applying for a lower job title when I am an IT manager. Told them that I wanted to work 7:30 - 4 and not a minute more. They couldn't pass up on my experience for a lower job so now I'm chillin at work on reddit...and getting paid to do so. Fuck it. I've tried killing myself for a job and got laid off. Now, I'm cruising on easy street and give zero fucks. Co-workers always ask what type of awesome tech I have at home. I tell them that I have an old record player and that's it. They ask why...I tell them I hate tech. Tech has ruined the human race. But I'm good at fixing the shit so if you're good at something...why not get paid for it?

Traditionally female sectors like healthcare and education are growing and traditional male sectors like construction and manufacturing are not.
People aren't marrying anymore and are having kids later and later. That means women supporting themselves instead of being 'stay at home Moms'. Every job they take is one that traditionally would have went to a man.
Unemployment has never been more socially acceptable
Unemployment has never been more comfortable. Nobody is starving because they are out of work. They are fat with smart phones, internet and flat screen tvs.

But I don't think this is some kind of glorious example of Atlas Shrugging or guys "enjoying the decline" but rather a symptom of epidemic depression and infantilization. These are Peter Pan's lost boys.
