I was in Passau 4 years ago. A small student town of cca 50,000 people, south east of Germany, on the border with Austria. It was never a military target because there was no important infrastructure. There are buildings more than centuries old because of that. Amazing place. Three rivers join at one point. Young academic people everywhere. The vibe is beautiful.

The allied terror-bombing had little to do with German cities being military targets. Read up on the bombing of Dresden.

1940 London was bombed enmasse for 57 days straight during the Blitz and the battle for Britain...Civilian casualties around 55-60k....Dresden and Koln, everything in Germany in 1942 was fair game after 2 months of heavy bombing in London in 1950. The Nazi regime kinda had that coming in all dark honesty since 1942-1945...

If I remember my history, I think Hamburg was one of the cities the allies completely destroyed, creating a firestorm like a hurricane sucking everything into it. Short of a nuke it was one of the most horrific mass destruction of a city. War is terrible

Germany is such a beautiful country, and generally there's order to a lot of things - even in these crazy SJW times it still feels like an oasis of reason when compared to other European countries. I can only imagine what it would have been like 30 years ago.
