OP i reccomend you go to community college and brush up on math, and try to enter an electronics/electrian program there.

At the same time apply to Electrical apprenticeships, as a helper or as an apprentice.

Please stay away from private programs that do not have a direct hire process. Most of these programs are just scams that charge you huge fees and drain your educational grants.

Please OP be careful, tons of these "certificate" private companies offer are worthless and cost to much. Get into an apprenticeship and or go to community college to get a certificate/apprentice classes.

That’s actually cheap money to invest in yourself.

For that path, I’d really try and focus on industrial / commercial and try and get in the union. Depending on the local, they provide some of the best training you can get.

It costs way more than $650 to become a real electrician, are you kidding me bro.
You are looking at about $40k+ for a real electrician program.

The other route is to go with an apprenticeship, which would sometimes be union IBEW. The thing is, they only take apprentices who have passed the electrician's program which costs like $40k or you'd need to know somebody to get you in. It's a huge bullshit racket, at least over here it's so crowded you'll never get hired. They give you a number if you can pass the entry test with the union. There are hundreds of people ahead of you before you applied...

Sorry for the late reply. I live in Colorado, I got started in the oilfield as an electrician. My employer paid me 16 an hour to start as a 1st year generally every year you get a 2$ raise. I was also working all the time so time and a half was easy to get working 50 hours a week. You go to school once a week. My employeer also offered a reimbursement program for school based on your grades. School is done either online or in a class. Every state is different in their requirements to get your Journeyman card. Colorado's is at least 2 years of electrical school and 4 years or 8,000 hours of work experience. The difference to me between college and a electrical job is pretty simple. Your earning money while learning a trade you also get yearly raises there is always work. Not to mention the side work you can get. College you are spending money or acruing debt on a degree and who knows if that will pay off. However if you do land a good paying job after college it is worth it. Being an electrician is alot of physical manual labor and long days. But it pays off journeyman at my old company were making $36 per hour. Once you get your Jcard you can work anywhere you want and make a great living telling apprentices what to do all day. Last thing I will say is as an apprentice especially a 1st year you will be doing bitch work that no one else wants to do. There were days i was on a shovel and rockbar digging holes all day long for 14 hours. Or pulling wire with other guys that weighs 5,000 lbs off of a spool. Its kind of like the army the more experience or "rank" you have the better the jobs get. As a second year you'll learn how to bend pipe 3rd year how to wire things up. 4th year your basically a working journeyman. Hope this helps you brother its up to you if you like bustin ass and physical work its worth a shot. If you dont want to be physically exhausted every night stick to college and get your degree.
