Meh. Having a kid re-wires your brain. I have as many apprehensions about women as the next guy posting here but nothing I can think of has given me more joy than my daughter.

It's a bit convoluted, but having her has made a lot of modern culture's women-centric biases a lot more palatable to me. To explain it in a spergy way: I have a utility function that I'm trying to maximize. Once I had my daughter my utility functioned changed. Now her well being is a direct input into my utility function. It's just a part of it, not anywhere near the whole thing, but when she benefits it directly translates into me being happier.

In today's world I'd council a son not to get married. When my daughter grows up though I'm going to be honest with her about what a sweet deal it is for her and encourage her to marry young (by today's standards) to a nice, wealthy man about a decade older than her.

it's why they used their daughters to secure political alliances through marriage. you're investing a lot of resources into raising her and the least she could do is contribute back in the only way she could in those times. i've noticed a lot in modern times fathers will spend a lot of time with their daughters and teach them a lot of things that they'd normally teach a son, while fathers with sons will be distant towards their child and leave him to fend for himself for the most part, he ends up missing out on all the early education having a good father usually entails. because society is full of pussified beta men who put women on a pedestal, they'll neglect their own sons while pouring all their resources into their daughters. it's just a suck set of circumstances.

However, there is some truth to this post in that daughters are generally less valuable to a family. In general, parents give a lot of resources to a daughter and then the daughter moves away, takes the last name of another family, and abandons their previous family. So, from an economics point of view, daughters are worth far less.

This is also demonstrated in countries like china which routinely kill their daughters, so that their limited resources can go towards a son (which is why there is a 40 million male surplus). In most cases, men will tend to be more valuabe. In agricultural families, the male will help with the farm. In modern families, males tend to be more self sufficient and more able to send money home to the parents.
