Isn't it funny to see how single men throughout history have improved our understanding of the world? It's almost as if biological urges dumb men down.
[–]Morphs_17 points18 points19 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They get into reproductive mode whereas the bachelors are in "advance mankind" mode.
[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think it's more that maintaining a relationship with a woman is a lot of work. Ejaculating into a warm hole doesn't rot your brain. Nofap is garbage.
[–]HavaGanda4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link
It's almost as if the human body has a need to procreate to continue your genetic line.

If men had put 1% of the effort they put to get laid on immortality studies, we would be immortal already.
[–]Ben_Eszes1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, but we're way smarter than that. What actual benefit do you attain from continuing your genetic line? It's like if we had a biological urge to not step on the cracks on the street. There's no reason to follow that urge, and so we could consider the ones that mindlessly follow it as stupid.
[–]DarkGalahad 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link
What’s the point in advancing mankind, if absolutely no men procreate to continue it? I wouldn’t even be here to enjoy life, if it weren’t for reproduction. I can guarantee the world would be in a much better place if the geniuses were procreating as much as they should be, rather than the less intelligent like flies. An intelligent man does a disservice by not passing on his genes
[–]HavaGanda1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This guy has the idea
[–]Ben_Eszes1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
That's just the thing: what is the point of it at all? What difference would it make if this was the last generation of humans on Earth? I'm of the mindset that the world doesn't owe us anything, and we don't owe the world anything.
[–]DarkGalahad -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Why not continue the human race? You can apply “it doesn’t INHERENTLY matter” to anything, even the things that you place value in, that DO matter to you, and give you a reason to live. So that’s not good criteria for how to live one’s life. People who refuse to reproduce are an evolutionary dead end, and will be replaced by people who will. As I said before, you wouldn’t even be here to contemplate this topic, or enjoy life if everyone felt the same as you
[–]Ben_Eszes1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Why not continue the human race?
That's not a question I need to answer. You need to provide rational for that, considering it's the option that requires action, whereas my option doesn't require any action.
As I said before, you wouldn’t even be here to contemplate this topic, or enjoy life if everyone felt the same as you.
I don't see where you're going with this. I don't care if I had never been born because I wouldn't be alive to contemplate this fact in the first place. I don't seem to understand why you think humans are so special that we should continue bringing new life into this shitty world. If your life is super awesome and you think you can ensure that your kid's life will be too, then more power to you.
[–]DarkGalahad -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Again, you can’t PROVE why the way you live your life is the correct one either, because yes, nothing matters. If you just operate under “I’m gonna live in whatever way gives me most pleasure”, what does pleasure mean? Why play video games, listen to music, read, have nice conversations with people, or do whatever you consider enjoyable if pleasure doesn’t really mean anything in of itself? You’re just assigning value to the concept of pleasure, because that’s what someone who “enjoys” pleasure is wired to do. But in fact, there is no inherent quality or value to pleasure. It’s just an evolutionary trait. By following a life of hedonism, you’re operating under the same logic I am. If you consider your life enjoyable, or at the very least, you see value in living over being dead, that’s a bit hypocritical, don’t you think? If you advocate for not having children, what you’re basically saying is “This is my favorite book of all time, but I’m not gonna tell someone about it, and it doesn’t matter if I do, because they don’t really NEED to read it” Yes, it wouldn’t matter either way if you were born or not. However, you ARE here, and you’re presumably enjoying yourself. I also like to think that there’s a greater purpose to life that we don’t yet understand. If the universe hosts life, and mechanisms are present to continue it, there’s probably a reason for it. Even if we’ll never know that reason, or just can’t comprehend it with our physical, human brains, or it wouldn’t make sense to us
[–]Ben_Eszes1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I'm not saying mine is correct. I'm saying that in absence of reason to do an action, it makes more sense to not do the action. Most people have children because they're selfish and want the joy of having offspring. That's fine. That's their reason to do it. But to have children because "Why not continue the human race?" is, to me, a terrible reason.
If you consider your life enjoyable, or at the very least, you see value in living over being dead, that’s a bit hypocritical, don’t you think?
This is a big misconception people have. If you're already alive, I advocate for staying alive vs. killing yourself. But if you have the choice to bring someone into this world vs. leaving them out of it, I advocate for the latter.
[–]DarkGalahad -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
The reason we do anything always has some selfish reason. Advocating to leave someone out of this world, can be construed to be immoral as well. Because I know that I would be mad if someone chose to leave me out. I’m glad I’m here, going through the experience that is life, that I otherwise would’ve never had. I’m glad to be here learning new things, and understanding the perspective of an actual, self-aware, mortal being in this universe. I think if we’re going by your logic, a better metric would be imagining how it would be, to be your child. Do you have a life that would allow for a child to have pleasant experiences? If the answer is yes (as it should be for almost anyone, save for those in poverty in third world countries), then your child would probably appreciate being alive. Even hunter-gatherers, who had no technology of any sort, and lived very basic lives that we would probably consider boring, found purpose and happiness in life. You’re saying that even though you enjoy life at this moment, you would rather not have been born? Also, continuing the human race isn’t the main reason for having children. I’m just saying that there isn’t necessarily a reason to choose to let our species go extinct, rather than continue it
[–]Ben_Eszes2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
If you're happy to be alive, then I'm also happy for you. There's a popular quote, "Life sucks and then you die." I think it's a pretty common opinion that life in general is pretty crappy, save for a few moments of happiness dispersed throughout. That's why drugs/alcohol/video games are so popular: people want to escape this life.
Purposely not having a child can't be immoral. I'll tell you why it's actually immoral to bring someone into this world: we can't ask them ahead of time if they want to be born. So, we're making a big assumption by believing that our own opinions are sufficient. It's like people who know their kid is going to be severely handicapped (whether physical or mental) and still choose to have the child. That's an example of them believing that they know what's best for the child. Speaking on others' behalf, in other words.
Do you have a life that would allow for a child to have pleasant experiences?
I have no idea. Again, it's too bold to make any assumption like that. Perhaps they grow up in a nice household but they get into a car accident and life their whole life as a quadriplegic, forced to give up on their dream of being a firefighter.
There isn’t necessarily a reason to choose to let our species go extinct, rather than continue it.
This makes it sound like it's an active thing to not have kids. Rather, it's the passive of the two options. Are you choosing to not be playing the piano at this very moment? No. You're not actively avoiding the piano. Same thing goes with 'avoiding' having kids. It's not an action. It's the lack of an action.
[–]DarkGalahad1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
At the moment, I’m only 18. If I got into an accident that resulted in complications where I’d be worth more dead than alive, or flat out died, I’d still appreciate having lived, even if I didn’t live very long. Plus, I like to think that all the people who die painfully, very prematurely, or both, are simply the sacrifices made for the ability of OTHER people to have quality lives. Both of our lives are the result of some people having shitty lives along the way. So I’d be fine with whatever potentially horrible fate I might have. Either way, it’s impossible for me to argue my position, because it’s simply up to preference. However, for whatever reason, antinatalism as an ideology gaining a lot of popularity, if it ever does, just doesn’t sit right with me. It also doesn’t make sense to me, because for the most part, life isn’t shitty at all for people in first world countries. And even those in less fortunate places find happiness
I could tell that you were young based on your previous reply. Keep up the optimism for as long as you can, and I do hope that nihilism doesn't creep into your life in the next 10 years. You're right that it's up to preference. I think the world sucks and I don't want to bring someone into this world only for them to possibly think the same thing as me, but choose to have a kid because everyone else is doing it.
So I’d be fine with whatever potentially horrible fate I might have.
Again, keep up the optimism. It's easy to believe but unless you go through it, you can't be so sure that you'll be fine with it.
Antinatalism is gaining popularity because people are waking up to the fact that we aren't mindless animals that follow our innate desires. I also think it's because religion is declining, and religion typically pushes for reproduction (to increase their member count). I actually wonder if England is seeing a rise in antinatalism based on their dropping religious rates.

[–]ValhallaWillCome0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I'm pretty sure we were talking about the fallacies of men. If it is true that a woman created it, then so be it. The biggest problem we have in western society is the lack of incentive we give to women to do useful stuff. I'm pretty sure women can do a lot of useful things in society, be it in the workforce or as housewives.
Both government and white knights assume the women can do no wrong and the lack of accountability has turned them into lazy sluts that feed off of society, like parasites.
[–]DenverDiscountAuto-1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I was kind of going along with the first part of what you said but then you called women lazy sluts and gave me a reason to believe this whole sub is full of bitter, lonely, women bashing adolescent who can only think in generalities and extremes.
Someone makes a meme like this and some people in this sub adopt that meme as their whole world view without any further critical thought or research.
[–]ValhallaWillCome0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I find it funny that you accuse us of generalizing, while you do the exact same based on one comment from me. And to be honest, most people in here start out as bitter, lonely and broken. Most of that is because of womens actions, even though you will only see one side of the story here off course. Having said that, this sub is about improving yourself as a man and getting rid of all the negativity in your own mind. Yes, there's a lot of women bashing in here, but most if not all of them have/had it coming to them through their own actions. There's enough examples here to show there is a systemic flaw in both women and the worshipping of women throughout society.
For me, I simply stopped caring what people think of me. I do my own thing, I enjoy my life and I hold my own opinions based on statistics, my own experiences and the stuff I see and hear around me. I don't hold women in high regard and I'm not sorry about it. I don't see any way in which they can improve my life, so I avoid them most of the time. I prefer spending my time with like minded people.

We live in a crazy world.
All those "famous" people and so called philanthropists should go to child oncology or visit people who wait for organ transplanting. Not collecting multimillion checks for screaming at microphone.
Meanwhile, capitalistic society is ok with the fact that 50 people in Germany posses 50% of all resources. It's all good slaves, you just have to work hard for us, to be able to pay bills and buy food so that you can die "gracefully".
Communism, Socialism & capitalism equally suck. They are human constructs. What we need is humanism and intelligent signs of life at the top of this species.
NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. Not in our greedy sick nature...

It is. Traditionalism is what kept people in order. Prior to the massive decline in religiosity, Europeans were having more children on average, and the concept of a nuclear family hadn’t broken down yet. It could also simply be the result of advancing to a first world nation. I just hope that anti-natalism doesn’t cause an extreme decline in population, or even our extinction somehow. I think to solve this problem, first world nations will have to implement incentives for having multiple children, or just children in general. Also, there’s nothing inherently bad about innate desires. Anything you do is because of some innate desire
