Do you need a career?

I gave up a lucrative job in IT. Now all i do is work in a low skilled manual labour job which pay all my bills and has zero stress for 25 hours a week.

Most people thought i was crazy, but i think they are crazy. Whilst they endure their morning peak hour commute, i'm sleeping in. When i do rise, i walk down the beach and go for either a walk, run, swim or surf. I then come home and do a few things round the house and cook up some lunch before having a nap. Then i head off to work in the late afternoon for 5 hours, missing all that peak hour madness. Life is much better this way than it was before.

I did what made me happy, happiness is my motivation and it's my end game. Making that happiness last until I die is the tricky part, which does take some sacrifice and planning.

I actually have immense job security in what I do. The pay is shit, but even a labor union could not give me the amount of certainty I have right now. That's a very liberating feeling knowing all I gotta do is show up, vaguely work, and I'll get paid.

It would not be enough for a woman despite the guaranteed income. Because it's not particularly great income, it's not a high status job, and of course there's a bit of a contempt subconsciously a man is not working himself to death worshiping her as a goddess... but it works for me.

When I had a girlfriend the only ambition I had was to make it to supervisor within the company, figured a bit of status, a bit higher pay, and it showed my passion. But seeing what management has to put up with no thanks fam. I admire your tenacity, somebody has to do it, but I wouldn't. Not for a life of a nagging bitch wife just waiting for her Chad olive branch, not for slightly higher pay.

Hobbies are amazing to keep you happy. I was never the type of person to write things down, calculate or put post it notes on my board, I liked food, cook food, buy ingredients at small locally owned stores, so essentially it's not ambition, it's just curiosity that got me intertwined with fate and destiny and I got a job in the food industry through dumb luck by meeting one of the managers I haven't seen at the mom and pop bar in a middle of nowhere. Just stay curious and do what you do.

I like what Turd Flinging Monkey once said and I think this applies to your question perfectly: If you are making enough money to comfortably do what you want, you are rich.

Consider the men working 60 hour weeks paying for million dollar mortgages to subsidize the spending and status-seeking habits of their wives. This is obviously a scenario you have averted thanks to the MGTOW lifestyle.

A career, however, can lead to a higher earning potential and a much earlier retirement. You can save a shitload of money and then achieve a lifetime of peace. It really comes down to our time preferences and goals.

I'm only 26 and I'm still deciding whether I should take the career or job route. I'm just a bank teller at the moment myself and still live at home but I've spent a lot of time at these crossroads, looking for some kind of hint as to which path to take...

I had jobs and they always seemed to go pretty well, never made a whole lot of money, but my bosses always liked me, I usually enjoyed the job and the people I worked with.

Then a few years ago I decided to pursue a career. In a trade. I've made some huge mistakes in my life but that has been the worst so far. Started off one place entry level, it was OK, but the pay sucked big balls. Went somewhere for a position a bit more advanced and after a few months it was obvious the owner hated me. Just a total personality clash, he preferred to hire 18 year olds and mold them, whereas I was over 30 and wouldn't take endless heaps of shit. That ended almost violently.

Found another job that was a bit of a step back but was supposed to move forward with schooling. As my position changed the manager that I got along with left and was replaced with one I didn't. School never happened, I would get sent home early every day, eventually I was told to eat a bullet and that was the end of that leaving me pretty much unemployable.

After 10 months of ignorantly trying to pursue that career with no luck I took a menial as fuck job close to home. I'm making more money, overtime is available, I've gotten 2 raises in 3 months and everyone actually gets along and the boss is easy to deal with. I'm in no hurry to leave. I don't see any better options out there right now.

The only question I'd have for you is when can you retire? My number one goal with my career is to stop working. I'm also in my early thirties. Right now I'm working a job that will allow me to retire comfortably in my mid 50's. I killed myself for a few years in my 20's to get this job but this job is fairly low stress and pays well. I work 9-5 and that's it. However, I'm working on something that will likely require me to work more hours but could, if it comes together, let me retire 10 years earlier. It's a trade off I'm willing to make. I'm all for work-life balance but if you want to get ahead, you have to be prepared to work harder and take more risk than the next guy.

I'm putting in my time until my daughter graduates from High School and then I'm going to open 3 business and become a millionaire by 65. I worked my ass off for years but no one wants to make me a manager - I'm actually a really good one, effective, collaborator but decision maker when I need to be and always impressed people. But the last couple companies have their opinions... even though I ran my own company for 10 years. Their loss.

I've been putting websites up for various businesses so in 7.5 years, I'll be dominating 2-3 different industries. So now, I put in my time and perform exactly to my salary range and nothing more.
