I would start with something that you will have use of throughout your life, enhance your quality of life and also save money. Pick up cooking, hell even baking. Working out? It will save you medical bills, pain and suffering in the future. Invest in yourself is the best thing you can do.

Firestarting.

Although it takes some effort, it's a skill anyone can do if they put some work in. The techniques are thousands of years old.

It is the single most powerful simple skill one can possess IMO. The sense of accomplishment is amazing. You're harnessing a force of nature and summoning it like a wizard.

Make your first fire with nothing but some stuff you find in the woods and become a God walking the earth.

When my oldest son started playing instruments at school, I learnt recorder and guitar, to play with him. Easy to learn and you can get very good at it in very little time.

Are you in decent shape? Rock climbing. Find a local gym, the starting gear will probably cost you less than 300 bucks (shoes, harness, chalk bag). See tons of improvement, get great physical activity, and its fun as balls.

Most gyms will rent you gear, and you can even take classes if you're going in totally blind and alone. Most climbers are pretty laid back too!

Edit: scared of heights? Great way to get over that fear, or at least learn to live with it.

Perhaps electronics, tons of easy to start dev boards. Arduino, for example. Can be useful and developed further. Imo not a "dead end" professional-wise.

Where do you live and what are you interested in? Not knowing that it’s impossible to come up with any decent suggestions. But generally I’d start out with something that doesn’t require a huge commitment in expensive gear up front. Not only does it risk being wasted if you don’t end up enjoying it, but it makes you susceptible to the sunk cost fallacy.

Leather craft. Making anything from sheathes, to lanyards to wallets. You can easily teach yourself just by watching some YouTube videos, and its pretty cheap. You can buy scrap leather off amazon/ebay and start from there.

I've taken to writing over the years. I always sort of liked literary arts in back in high school, but I started to really enjoy it around the time I was ~21 or 22. Then I practiced through blogs, eventually went to college and got a little better. Naturally, I continued to practice and ended up with a few publications. To this day I still enjoy it. This sub ends up being an outlet for me a lot, for both writing and expressing frustrations with modern society.

And honestly it didn't take a whole lot of skill and little to no investment. You can learn grammar pretty easily, if you suck at it, and you can build up your own style.

If you get good enough and have the creativity required, you can even do some ebook publishing and make a little coin on the side. I find it is also a skill that lends itself to your professional life pretty well. Most colleagues have at least some level of respect for good writing skills.
