99% of the time “It’s complicated” means she is negotiating an open relationship after cheating on her boyfriend/husband.

Or she hasn't realised that she's a pump and dump, and thinks that she's only a few sex acts away from landing the commitment of her current alpha

the sheer arrogance of it is hilarious to me, like it's the opening curtain of their planned 'in a relationship' status update. in their mind, they've already landed you

Or is a lower quality female trying to secure an alpha male and just getting used for sex then crying about how he won't commit.

Meanwhile good men are ignored until said woman needs financial help (betabux). I noticed most Chads usually do not have a great career or income (they never had the motivation if life is just sex with women 24/7).

To be fair i never had any motivation in life since realising this. On the other hand i can survive on what i earn, mend and make do so it doesn't bother me.

[–]DarthCallidous36 points37 points38 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
This right here. I'm still a virgin by choice. I've been offered sex twice. I refused because the risks outweigh the rewards. When I see someone using virgin as an insult, I just think, is that really how we get validation? Does sleeping with someone really make me more of a person? Why?
[–]ContrasexualWoman8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Anyone who uses the term virgin as an insult is incredibly small minded. Good for you, sticking with your principles.

Hey ,legitimate question from an outsider. Are you planning on not having sex forever? Right kind of girl situation? Do you not feel like you're missing out on a piece of the human experience? Again, not trying to start shit, just browsing and genuinely curious.
[–]DarthCallidous22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
There are some religious reasons, but I had also hoped that maybe one day I'd find a nice girl who had stayed clean, like me. I wanted to be that stereotypical gentleman who had opened doors for girls and done nice things for them, not simply to get sex, but also to find a nice companion. I wanted a counterpart that understands me emotionally.
I've also seen my friends and ex-girlfriends destroying themselves through sex that now struggle to pay bills and have to deal with treatment for STD's. They're single, lonely, and sad. I've also seen guys pick these women up and then have to deal with their children. Both sides cheat on each other, lie to each other, and physically abuse each other. The only successful relationships I've seen are my parents and my siblings, and that's because the men and women understand their individual places.
Not me. I've had my share of relationships. I think the single life suits me just fine.
Relationships are like a minefield in No Man's Land. Sure there's a chance that you can get to the other side and become a hero, but I'd rather not fight at all.
[–]talk_show_ghost6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
I think you are doing it right. you've avoided a sizable amount of pitfalls just by sticking to your ideals. And I agree, after a pregnancy scare, experiences with dishonest women, and seeing great men that I knew taken to the cleaners emotionally and financially, I'm out of the game for good.
[–]majtommm7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Tying both subjects together - So there's a radioisotope that may or may not decay during X amount of time. If it decays, a poison is released, killing the cat in the box. Until you look in the box, the cat is both dead and alive. Reality does not collapse into a single possibility until the box is opened. She opens the box and the result is .. . yes, she is a slut, in fact they both are. There is no cat. (Woah.)
(Nah, you're not missing anything in my (il)logic, I'm just typing stupid crap to help fill up this empty page. Even quantum mechanics isn't really complicated. If it seems complicated, it's only because someone is explaining it poorly, or they have a reason to make you believe it's complicated.)
[–]FarTooLong221 points22 points23 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Hmm, one of its proponents said that if you think you understand quantum physics, you haven't understood it.
[–]arcb7c69e26 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I was just joking around. I actually fully agree with you.
I studied quantum mechanics a loooong time ago, and I've forgotten almost all of it. The fact that Al Einstein never accepted quantum mechanics, and was famously quoted as saying, 'God does not play dice with the universe' (his succinct way of summarizing his rejection of the theory) . .. that tells me that if somebody that smart rejected it, but it has been proven to be true, then the universe is a really strange and interesting place, much weirder than our senses would lead us to believe.
Kinda like women, when observed through the lenses of blue-pill-colored glasses. Nah, women aren't actually that complicated, but I didn't really understand that until I read through all the MGTOW material, and put the blue pill stuff in my past.
[–]commander_zoidberg 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
During the early years when Quantum mechanics went mainstream it was called "just shut up and calculate" because it worked mathematically but no one really had a concept of the why or how. We still don't really but certainly we're more aware of how weird the universe gets on small scales.
[–]Baldrbaldr6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
"If it seems complicated, it's only because someone is explaining it poorly, or they have a reason to make you believe it's complicated."
Great point.
[–]arcb7c69e22 points3 points4 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
It's not an easy discipline, but like anything else, if you have the interest level (because you are curious about it, or more likely because you think you can get a job working with it, but even better if both) then a lot of things about it get easier, after you invest lots of time into learning it and working with it. Just like anything else difficult, persistence and determination get the job done. [*edit - Doesn't apply to impossible tasks like finding a NAWALT unicorn. You could be persistent and determined for 700 years and not find one of those.]
That said, although I thought it was fascinating many years ago when I studied it, I haven't used it since then. And in all honesty the class I took was probably a 'quantum mechanics for people with smaller brains' kind of class. About the only remnant I have nowadays is finding it interesting to read stuff like that in the science news.
Bringing it back to the OP topic .. . if she explained her situation properly, she might only have to say the words, 'I'm a slut.' Which is Not Complicated. Her reason for making it sound complicated is she doesn't want to be shamed for being a slut. So yeah, I kinda was staying a little on topic. :-) But mostly just trying to fill up space since the page was blank when I got here! I could have just written 'FIRST POST!' but meh.
[–]OldTimeyENT5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That experiment never made sense to me. So the cat is dead, why would not opening the lid equate to it still being alive? Is it's last soul essence trapped in the box?
[–]Philletto4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Because the cat and the box and the poison are molecular items above the quantum level, Schrodinger's Cat has always been a terrible simile. The truth is our observation of sub atomics interferes with the sub atomics. The cat is NOT both dead and alive. The particle did NOT go through both slits. The quantum physicists are having a bit of a laugh.
[–]arcb7c69e21 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Good summary.
The S. Cat story reminds me of a car analogy. It's a quick way to introduce people to a topic (e.g. the blatant weirdness of quantum mechanics), but as soon as you start to zoom in to dissect it, the analogy starts to fall apart. Especially if people who have working or advanced knowledge of the subject (not me! I've forgotten almost all of it!) start thinking about it.
It's been so long since I studied that stuff, I really don't remember much about the wave/particle duality, or the slit experiments, or observation interference, or how strange and counter-intuitive the behavior becomes as you get closer than the average distance between two atoms in a molecule. I can string words together about it, but to work on the mathematics of it, I'd need to spend a long time studying to get back up to speed. And for what? My current job has zilch to do with it.
It does fill you with a degree of awe for the amazing and amazingly strange universe we live in though.
[–]Philletto1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I hope you won't mind if I take this opportunity to say the weirdness of sub atomics could be a clue we are a computer simulation. The coders never wrote the code.
It is all amazing and scientists have the ability to make anything extremely boring. But I don't like incorrect analogies.
[–]arcb7c69e21 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It is all amazing and scientists have the ability to make anything extremely boring.
Agreed! That hits close to home, because one of my anti-skills is boring people practically to the point of death; I try to avoid doing that nowadays. If consciously applied ('weaponized'), this anti-skill turns into a positive, because it can be used to encourage people to go away and leave you alone. :-)
But I don't like incorrect analogies.
I get it. Sounds like your subject matter knowledge is either more recent, or more thorough, or both. Personally I hate disinformation and bad teaching (I'm not an instructor IRL, but sometimes my words might fool people into believing I am). With the internet in such high usage, we're all having to develop a good 'mental immune system' to help us determine what ideas fail to pass the smell test /aka/ BS test.
I've read about that idea in the past, in both some general audience targeted science news articles, and also in plenty of science fiction. What specifically do you have in mind when you write, 'The coders never wrote the code'? My apologies if I'm being dense in not understanding that part. (The first reaction thought I have is, Does that mean the behavior at quantum lengths is 'buggy' due to being improperly specified/coded, and/or improperly tested?)
[–]Philletto1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
'The coders never wrote the code'?
I don't know a lot but I test everything for reasonableness. Science documentatries love to say intriguing things but are they correct? Evolution is not animals morphing at will, so Giraffe's didn't grow tall to get leaves from the top of the trees. Although the ones which were taller certainly got to eat when the shorter ones didn't. Saturn's rings aren't incredibly flat because the moons hoovered up the others, sounds good but doesn't fully explain it. And outer space isn't as colorful as the docos show it at least not in our eyesight spectrum.
So quantum physics is all crazy and shit. Why? One reason is almost certainly our observations influence events. This isn't crazy or mystical, a volt meter can show the wrong voltage if itself it draws current and influences the circuit. But the bashing of atoms is amazingly different to anything else. There seems to be quanta of energy fields. Binary bits, things that are or are not. It is so totally different to the physical world we are used to observing. And I keep seeing the similarity in video games. The video game world does not actually exist. Someone codes surfaces and objects and the coding says you cannot move through things supposed to be solid. When done completely, it is believable but sometimes you can find areas which you can enter although you shouldn't be able to do that. And things are totally strange because the coders never expected you could do that. In a video game you can go into strange spaces because there was a gap in the solid areas. Large coloured walls and areas, no visible things in sight and yet you are clearly walking on a surface and can move.
What if we found a gap like that and this explains why things are crazy? I don't know and if it is true, we won't be able to tell. But there's something about the quanta which is similar to virtual reality.

Schrödinger's cat
Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. It illustrates what he saw as the problem of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics applied to everyday objects. The scenario presents a cat that may be simultaneously both alive and dead, a state known as a quantum superposition, as a result of being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur. The thought experiment is also often featured in theoretical discussions of the interpretations of quantum mechanics.

[–]runcmc221 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
To your first point, does that mean that everything is relative to the viewer?
I just find it difficult to wrap my mind around the fact that there's two possibilities ONLY UNTIL you open the box. Surely whether it's alive or dead is already predetermined right?
Sorry if I come off as ignorant, this shit fascinates me but I'll be the first to admit I'm not the brightest.
[–]arcb7c69e20 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm not the brightest either. I've just read a lot of (good and bad) science fiction, and enjoy reading science news sometimes.
As this guy's comment suggested, the S. Cat story is famous, but kinda misleading. I was mostly just re-wording the wikipedia page as a supplement to my memory; I've read about S. Cat over and over again, mostly in science fiction novels.
This is not a direct answer to your question, but here is a free e-book called Engines of Creation (EOC) by K. Eric Drexler. It talks about the astonishing technology we humans will be able to build through our increasing ability to manipulate material a single atom at a time. Quantum stuff is bizarre and confusing .. . but Drexler demonstrates in some of his books (maybe EOC, maybe another) that at the slightly larger scale of atoms, the quantum stuff is manageable, so there is nothing to prevent amazing new post-scarcity economies, super-capable AI, cheap space travel, advanced medicine, . . . and also horrible new weapons, and other ways to kill us all. But will advanced molecular manufacturing (aka 'nanotechnology') come over the next 5 to 10 to 20 years, or will it be 100 or 200 or 400 years? I don't know, but it's interesting to read about this stuff. I hope I live to see some of the bigger impacts of it, and that civilization doesn't collapse before then.

[–]RK210014 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I'm guessing you're a Brit? It's one of those Brit/American differences in the way we speak. Like for example you'll use the plural when describing a sports team, Team XYZ were winners last night, while in the US we'd say Team XYZ was a winner last night.
Physics is plural technically, but in every day speech it's referred to as a singular noun. Much the way data is referred to. Data is many datums, but people almost never refer to it as a plural noun.
