Ya gotta live somewhere... Rent money just pays off someone else's mortgage.

I've been in my place for ~25 years now, private at the end of the road, with a gate to keep out the rift raft that I never see... live in the country ... 3 acres, seasonal pond, and I put up all the damn antenna wires I want without any jerk off property manager saying otherwise.

Downside, the state keeps finding new and inventive ways to tax property owners.

Besides with 3 acres I can grow... whatever I want.

I enjoy:

The fact that rents have gone so sky high around here that my mortgage payment for a large home is just a little higher than a 2 bedroom apt's monthly rent.

Large front/back yards for the kids to play around, run like crazy, scream at the top of their lungs, play in the snow.

Each kiddo has his own room. I have my own master bedroom, office, separate media and game rooms.

No fucking SJWs, dyed hair feminists as far as the eye can see.

Home owning is stupid and unless it's actively making you money, it is pointless. You might as well just buy some land and plop down a van or small living space, you'll save far more than if you get a McMansions.

I enjoy the peace of mind of not having to worry about where I will be living next year.

I play guitar. I have two project cars. Both of these are frowned upon by rental places. I also once had a landlord raise rent 30% one year. Landlords can opt to not renew your lease. Finding a new rental that lines up with your current rental is hard.. If you have kids embedded in a school district, with already set bussing, and child care plans, it gets more complicated. I bought a basic house, moderate yard for the kid, moderate garage for me.

Finding projects to undertake. Just put in a fridge in garage, insulated tubing thru the wall to two beer taps in my den. One a local golden ale and the other to a nearly local IPA.
