I think there should be equal rights when it comes to opportunity. Now given the opportunity, I also believe women should be held to the same standard. If war requires you to be able to pick up the soldier next to you and carry him then you need to be able to do that. Not oh well your a female we will give you a lighter load. No you signed up, you meet the standard. But some things are sex specific. Men are protectors. They should protect. If we could choose the roles so easily, I bet you more women would pass the child birth off to the male. But we have our duties and you have yours.

In a way this is actually good for men, you can bet your ass that if women had to sign up and a war came up requiring the draft, all of the non-combat roles would by default go to women.

Right now, if Uncle Sam wants you, you at least have a chance at getting one of those positions.

Immediately after the question was put to us, the ENTIRE CLASS screamed "No!" I don't get it, these feminists who whined about equal opportunity for over a century now but they turned at the last moment...

Either women are equal to men and therefore go into the same fields equally (includes the military) and are treated the same, not pampered and relieved of some duties
Or they're not equal, which means that they admit that men have better constitution, endurance and willpower and in turn, men must be rewarded for that difference

Men Going Their Own Way is usually a discussion of Male/Female interactions and societal expectations therein, but men should also be able to go their own way in terms of military service. A man should choose for himself to serve or not serve in the military. The Selective Service Act is obsolete. We've had an all-volunteer military in the U.S. since 1973...over 40 years! TL;DR: If we are fighting a small war, we have plenty of volunteers to do the job, and if we ever fight another World War, there will be a nuclear exchange, which also precludes the need for a Draft.
