I wish you had to pass some kind of test to become a parent, there are so many people that should never be parents and unfortunately it seems to be more of those and not many of the good parents.

I had to stop reading the Quora posts because I was going to cry, or vomit, or both. But I think this post does a good job of illuminating female nature. So many women treat children as just another accessory. (I've watched this first-hand with my millionaire sister, who spends far more time at the salon than she would with her sons.)

There's no way to explain the primal wounding that comes from maternal abandonment. If you haven't been through it, you're not going to understand it.

My mother was forced to relinquish me to the church - she was only 16 at the time and considered a public disgrace. I was adopted by "good Catholic parents."

While the abandonment complex is profoundly traumatizing to a child, a child who is passed around from family to family has a much more difficult time. It makes it impossible to trust, and the world is viewed as adversarial, harsh, and unfair.

It's pretty obvious from pictures and, later, from memories I didn't want to dwell on, that I was sexually abused up until the age of about 10 years old. And that's when the beatings really started. My adoptive father never wanted me, and refused to speak to me throughout my childhood, with the exception of threats. To this day he should be rotting in prison for his sadism and the many beatings my sister and I endured.

I will always wonder what a happy childhood memory must feel like, as I have no good memories.
