I know that people in Alaska thought he was a dumbass for pretty much committing suicide.

In fact, he's an idiot, because a number of people have attempted what he did, and ended up killing themselves because of it.

He's a dip shit that had no idea what he was doing. He thought he could leave society, but nature and the environment doesn't care how stupid you are.

As far as living in an RV, I'd recommend it, therefore get a cheap one, fix it up, and do it.

If you hate it, then you didn't invest much, but you learned how to rebuild an RV.

I say beware of what you idealize. The book and the movie both remind me of someone stuck in a loop on a topic and instead of trying to explore it logically, they try to bore a hole in it and understand only one very fine facet of it that topic.

That being said, I think everyone deserves solitude for a while, what I call having a serious relationship with yourself. I think I found that while in the Army, with many great stints of solitude.

Living like that would just also give you a great experience in finding new places, seeing things you might not see otherwise. Being young (I'm assuming) you might take a lot from an experience in travel and meeting other people.

By the way there is a book (by Jon Krakauer) by the same name as the film (which was largely based on it) -- arguably the book is better (less "sensationalized").

That's my dream and goal. Monk mode now and living cheap with good salary. I contract so the option of part-time or intermittent is a good one down the road.

Though I can do it alone - done it twice already - I'd rather partner up with one or two adventurous MGTOW souls next time.

RV, boat ... doesn't matter to me. What I miss is the freedom and solitude.

Do any of you have experience in living this kind of lifestyle? If so, please share your story and any tips you may have. Show me truth.

Not RV but am not completely anchored like I used to be. Having friends around the place helps leave the bay when they need help and call you over for a week of fun+helping out with stuff to do.

No. The book "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer* was published in 1996... a little over 3 years after McCandless died.
