I looked into silver but buying it and storing it is a pain in the ass and the dealers are sketchy. You gotta buy above spot, pay taxes and/or shipping. So just to break even you gotta see a 20% increase in silver price.

I like your take on things.

I've been dumping money into BTC, ETH, MNR, and DASH for quite some time now. All go straight to cold storage. I see it as buying lottery tickets. They all have strengths and weaknesses. I have no idea which one will come out on top, and it wouldn't surprise me if there's always going to be a few cryptos always battling for #1. One of the nice things about diversification in cryptos is that with the current capital shift from BTC to ETH, DASH and MNR, your portfolio won't take much of a hit. Too many BTC fanboys got locked into thinking that BTC would always remain king. Maybe, maybe not. Consumers are fickle - if a competitor offers features you don't, expect mass migration to that technology. It turns out that BTC is little more than an secure, online P2P ledger. Not much more, really. I still think they're ALL good buys though. This is only a temporary setback for BTC. I've been through so many BTC booms and busts that I'm numb to it now. This too shall pass.

My recommendation is to diversify elsewhere, too. Index funds, precious metals, cryptos, real estate, physical cash, and education is what I invest in. The last one is a bit of a curveball, but think about it for a moment. What's the one thing that cannot be taken away from you? Knowledge. All other things can be confiscated, stolen, etc.

The only other advice I have is learning to live a frugal lifestyle. I was sort of forced into it, given the nature of my work. I'm a technical worker in a niche field, and end up traveling all over for work. Living out of hotel rooms, temporary apartments, etc. It's a great way to save money and learn to live lean.

Also, as far as "farm land" is concerned, I'm a bit skeptical. Farm land isn't worth much these days. It takes thousands of acres to turn a profit, and as a result, the value of the underlying land has dropped precipitously. I think that like precious metals, it's a lousy investment from a ROI perspective, but it acts as an insurance policy in SHTF scenarios. Farming is fucking hard, but the land can save your ass if you need it.

I'm curious, what do you mean by "farm land that won't be affected by the future climate"? Do you mean atmospheric climate or political climate?
