Is Life Pointless?

Life is pointless. As in, in and of itself, life doesn't have a point. The life you see around you is because it seeks perpetuation, but that's about it.

But that's what makes it awesome.

Life is a video game to use a metaphor. You can do anything you want only constrained by your biology/physics/chemistry/etc. Those are the rules.

You can have all the fun you want. Made up stories about fantasy sky fairies and mystical monsters and women that give a shit about you, that's all poppycock, but that leaves the entirety of a life sustaining planet available to you.

Go have experiences. Have fun with it. Get into some trouble and go beyond the velvet ropes. There's barely any rules anyway, and which ones there are, most of the time you can ignore.

It's a sandbox game. I wouldn't necessarily recommend getting to a six star wanted level, as there's far more fun not doing that, but to each their own.

I find this so relatable lately. Whats the point. My problem is having wants/cares/desires or how ever you want to label it, and the journey to achieve those things are seeming less worth it lately. My biggest example is my career. If I want to gain wealth I gotta pay my dues, work in aweful positions in the hopes that an opportunity pops up so I can improve my life, but while I wait everything turns to shit around me. I was just telling my mother the other night that I was happier homeless. And that wasn't a picnic. Weighing the pros and cons, almost nothing feels worth it anymore.

Hedonism is enjoyable, and easy. But it turns out that accomplishing very large, difficult things is amazingly satisfying too.

I'd recommend both.

The point is to create your own path and your own purpose. I never liked the idea that there needs to be some higher purpose for people to follow but I understand the need for it.

Consider the following. Would you rather follow others to promised land? Or Reign in hell?

In many ways it shows that people think the goal is more important than how you get there. Also, your capacity to enjoy it changes based on the life you live.

So who cares if there’s no higher purpose or a god. Even if there was a god, what does that serve? It’s not as if people have a tangible dialogue with their god every day. And would you want to live that way in the first place?

Take this opportunity to stake your claim. Experience what’s out there and enjoy what you can. Depressing? It seems pretty awesome to me!

1) Life's point is for you to decide. Your purpose= responsibility.

2) God seems not a fucking sky god. I don't think god can be idolized as a Superhero in the clouds, or level 100 Skyrim badass. I think this is why Christ warned the plebs not to ducking worship idols of god, because it gets confused. I think God is a superior guiding force, I think that force is nature.

God is the matter that constitutes everything, and cannot be destroyed (thermodynamics). God is the apparent in that matter when fallen from the guts of broken lifeforms (dead organisms), reassembles into bacteria, then animals/fish, then so on, ad infitum. God is apparent also in that the soul is just a collection of perceptions (nostalgia/memories), thus when we decay, there is no "soul" lost (Hume philosophy). When we decay you might say a personality was disassembled, but that's nothing lost. God seems to me as nature, not a fucking sky-wizard.

3) There is morality, it seems!: Natural Law Theory: All organisms assembled in the universe have the same in-built instincts. These holds he same core drives for pleasure, and aversions. All organisms seem to strive to build their lives to study Plato's five inclinations. Everything seems to want to be social in the degree in which benefits them, to reproduce, to do good (pleasant), to live by truth and not falsehood, and to keep justice (slap younger monkeys when they steal fruit form dangerous alphas).

4) There is Vice and virtue, it seems: Following the five inclinations is reward with 100% pleasure (think charity, socializing with loved ones, being just, and the other two). But vice, say heroin/overeating, is about say 40% pleasure and 60% aversion. We are all programmed with an innate Ten Commandments or Natural Law.

are video games pointless? you turn those off eventually, too. some may argue that those experiences can be appreciated in the long term by looking back at them, which is not comparable to death. however, the real reason most people play video games isn't just to look back at those experiences, they are concerned with enjoying the present moment.

get your head out of the future and enjoy now. what you do now affects yourself and others now.

What's crazy is if you make a well rounded case to the meaningless of life most people assume you're depressed and point you towards a therapist, who will just take your money and nod their head. Life to me is a bit like GTA once you've completed all the missions, there's nothing really to do other than enjoy yourself and not get busted.
