Just like you diversify your investment portfolio, you need to diversify your personal portfolio.

Teach yourself a skill that could be useful in a robot economy. Art, music, therapist, adult education, crafts like woodworking (there will always be a demand for unique hand-crafted shit), trades like electrical or plumbing.

If you're a truck driver who spends his off time drinking beers and watching "the game," then I feel bad for you.

All you need in life is to provide useful benefit to you or to someone.

What is a job? why do people demand to have jobs? No. dont be stupid. Make something and be useful. Dont depend on these so-called jobs for this so-called society that only seeks to exploite you and rape you raw.

Fuck that. I honestly think investing in a piece of land, firearm, maybe fix up an RV and live off the grid. Hell that can be done....itll be a tough life but goddamn you've be a tough sonababitch that can survive no matter whats thrown at you

These are the same cries that were heard from buggy whip makers and horse carriage makers and farmers. Most of these workers are men, and men will adapt.

[–]pilledwillingly8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd like to agree with you, but we aren't the buggy whip makers, we are the horses.

There are 4 million Semi drivers in the US. Self driving trucks will put them out of work.

How will people be able to eat?

[–]MRA-automatron-2kb2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

On the news last night,

they said UBER pulled off the road their self driving cars due to an accident.

But I suspect this is just temporary.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

This is what worries me. Not only do I not want to be forced to ride in an auto driven vehicle, I do not want to share the roads with them when something goes wrong (and something will go wrong as it does with anything men make).

[–]Eab5431 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Walk.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No thanks, the constitution says I don't have to. But be my guest. There are many men like yourself who will be good little puppets.

[–]Eab5431 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hahahaha

[–]MRA-automatron-2kb1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They advertise cars as way to get a feeling of freedom and an adrenaline rush so those autonomous autos won't sell (I think).

But they will get those women drivers off the road LOL

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As long as they have fewer accidents than people...

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That will remain to be seen, as well as i am sure this is going to be challenged. The attack on free will is agitating many.

The other human driver was the one ticketed from what I heard.

The economy has always evolved in the sense that old uneccsary jobs dispear to accomodate new ones. Like when the refrigerator was created their was no longer a need for a milk man or a ice man. Because of growing tech these low skilled level jobs are shifting over to maintenance or operation of the machinery. Jobs aren't becoming scarce their just changing with the times. It's a great time to be an Electrical and Computer engineer that's for sure lol.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I think we'll have universal basic income at that point. With regulations on who can have children and stuff like that. It might be a good thing, it will allow more creative people to create and invent, they'll have more time to do those things.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Who will pay this income? Higher taxes on the people still working?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The companies will, they will have too. If they don't, people will start rioting and causing mayhem. Think about it, millions of people without a job, just laying around starving to death, things will get ugly pretty soon.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They could give a shit if people riot. Hell, it seems right now that the media/corporate world is sponsoring riots.

[–]exit-stage-right22 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Basic income would require that everyone live at the same standard. This is against human nature. Everyone wants an edge somewhere. Better car, better house, better clothes, etc. the CEO of the big companies won't be driving an expensive car, because the company won't be able to pay him much, due to the revenue being so low. It's a perpetual cycle throughout history, you can't make something from nothing, it must come from the work effort of people. And people want more for their efforts.

[–]DrRocuronium1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nicely said. Equality of outcome is evil. A truly great society operates off of equality of opportunity.

[–]jrjudjud3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

you think these things won't ever break? someone has to fix them

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

True, but how many repair men will we need?

[–]jrjudjud0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I also forget to include the engineers, cad techs, programmers, salesmen, etc. if you think your job is in jeopardy, get prepared now

[–]exit-stage-right20 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There will be robots that fix and repair machines and each other.

[–]Eab5430 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Till the fixers are automated.

[–]mrp_18442 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nearly 40 percent of jobs in the U.S. may be vulnerable to replacement by robots in the next fifteen years, according to a new study by the research firm PwC.

I don't think it will be 40%.

When will these robots start doing government jobs?

All these robot stories, I never see them talking about automating government services.

[–]phreshstart4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When will these robots start doing government jobs?

Well, if you think about it, basic income isn't implemented specifically because most of the government services will be eliminated. Where will all those government employees go? With large scale use of self driving cars, witch are way cheaper and safer on the long run than regular cars, who would need a driver license(DMV)? There'll probably be no speeding tickets as well. Considering how AI is now better(faster, cheaper and more accurate) than doctors at diagnosing some patients or how we have now AI lawyers for helping with legal research or parking tickets, I think the rest of the government services could be easily eliminated in the near future if some big sharks didn't do anything possible to stop it or at least slow it down. One way or another you have to agree that we have some troubled times ahead.

Hey you guys, has anyone see that one horror movie Pixar made? I think it was called Wall-e or something.

[–]hackableyou1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To me I see new jobs in making and maintained by this software and hardware. Better paying jobs.

A universal basic income will come in to ensure people who cannot get jobs will be able to live. Then women will truly never need men.
