Since you are a newbie, I would recommend a robo advisor to start out with. You can grow your money while learning how to invest in individual equities. Check out Betterment or Wealthfront. With these advisors, they teach you more than how to evaluate a stock but they help you determine how much and often you put in while focusing on a particular goal. As you learn, put a few dollars in Robinhood or M1 finance. They have some good tools as well. Bookmark The Motley Fool and Investopedia. They will teach you everything else you want to know about stocks. You'll soon find out that everyone has an opinion on stocks.

Decide what time frame you want to keep your shares over. If you don't need to sell and use the money for the next couple of decades, you can buy high risk instruments, but if you need it the next few years, the high risk ones may end up being worthless when you need them the most. The trade-off is that low risk one tend to appreciate less. And obviously spread the risk, don't put more eggs than you're willing to lose in one basket.

Also, use critical thinking, be aware that there's a lot of snake oil and astrology in the trading business. Whether professional or amateur, nobody can accurately predict the future, and it's hard if not impossible to tell if a company is over- or undervalued just based on the small amount of sanitised information the companies put out in their reports. Even with the pros most of their success is down to dumb luck, but they of course have a vested interest in attributing it to skill so they can charge more for their advice.

Stocks require learning a lot about fundamentals (Warren Buffet trading style) and regularly monitoring what a public company announces, and investigating the end of year balance sheets, etc.
There are many different types of trading, from commodities (metals, grains, meats) to cash (foreign exchange aka forex) and of course stocks. You can also trade things (futures, options, warrant, indexes) which use those items as the underlying, but add in another component such as volatility or a different currency payout.

My point is you know nothing, and there is so much to learn. Get a book on one method (say a dummies guide) and open a demo account (paper trading). Trade each method (stocks, forex, commodities) and see which you like or understand better.
Do NOT open a real money account until you have a few weeks of consistent profits, and can look back at your trading diary and establish some common rules of when to get in, and when to get out.
It should take you 6-10 weeks per type to study and paper trade. Most traders take 2 years to become proficient in one particular type.

You have a better chance growing your investment dollars flipping goods on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace then on Wall Street. Wall Street and investment accounts are fine for parking some of your wealth later in life.

Investment isn't always 'sending money to Wall Street' to get stocks, etc. The best investments in my life have been local.

CGC Canopy Growth Corp is a marijuana stock that I like. Look at their 3 year chart, huge growth already. Try to buy on a dip, then just hold for years. They are the largest in Canada where recreational just became legal last year, but stores haven’t really popped up yet. Edibles will be legal later this year. They are building to grow hemp in New York, which they can switch to Cannabis later when it’s eventually federally legalized. They are in Europe too. Check out r/weedstocks

Check out Robinhood - no fee trades. I started with E*TRADE with very little money and quickly realized how $7 trades add up unless you buy the commission free ETFs. You can also check out Vanguard and buy their ETFs commission free. I like VIG right now for the dividend growth potential. Also, check out Acorns, Worthy, and Lending Club. Small consistent savings adds up!

Depending on your financial circumstances, if you want to invest for the long term, look into either a Roth orme traditional IRA.
