Sorry, I don't like pit bulls. Two of them mauled my livestock last week. I caught them in the act and killed them both.

About a month before that, I saw a pit bull being walked in public. Broke its owners leash and tried to kill another small dog that was being walked. A large crowd managed to get the small dog to safety. While they were concentrating on checking its wounds, the pit owner fled the scene with her dog.

My roommate used to have a pit. He'd always drone on and on with those same old tired bullshit lines about how "It's the owner, not the breed!" and blah blah blah. Then his dog mauled his nephew. Kid was like maybe six or seven years old.

When the police and Animal Control folks came out to check the two corpses for chips, both parties flatly stated that the majority of their dog nuisance/violence calls involve pit bulls, and that they didn't feel bad for the dogs at all.

My opinion is that "It's not the breed, it's the owner!" is the dog owner equivalent of NAWALT.

Dogs are the best. I have a standard poodle. I can't stand the shedding but I wanted a dog on the bigger side.

He just gets a puppy cut, none of that showroom frilly pompom-y bullshit. These were once hunting dogs after all. Very bright dog, in some respects brighter than I am. Mine's got the kind of temperament I love too - attached to his owner but reserved with strangers.

Coming home after work to be greeted by an ecstatic dog and no honey-do bullshit is the best thing in the world.
