I take my daughter with me everytime I fix something on my truck or car. She has installed door latches and helped me change a flat. She knows how to check all the fluids in my car and knows what how to gr ee's case important parts on my truck. She's 9. My truck is a class 8 truck.

Kids learn by watching and they learn by doing.

If you call a handyman to install your dryer and washer, that's what your kids will do. If you show them how to install them, when they are older, they'll do it themselves.

Being a man is about NOT deferring responsibility. Handle your business, don't use anyone else as a crutch unless it's very necessary. Women turn to men to handle their problems, boys are being raised tond do the same, to be feminine. If everyone turns to someone else, who's actually going to take care of business?

Be strong be capable, so you CAN handle your business. Be the man others can lean on, but don't be a tool. Know your worth, command respect and give it where due.

Different cultures / lifestyles have different ideas of what being a man is. Neither is necessarily wrong but the traditional old world idea of fixing things yourself is only relevant in a world where you have to fix things yourself.

Every culture and time period and country had its own ideas of masculinity that varied greatly based off of need.

My father don't had much of education, so he carried the family working with knife and hammer, much of the structure from the house he lives was built by own hands, with help of the childs, at my ten years i was carrying sand or wood, preparing cement for the house, etc. But he was the one who could do things square and right, i was always clumsy in anything 'hands on' .We had a litle vegetable garden, so in some times we planted,tomatoes, letuces, potatoes, corn, etc.But i spend more time reading and studying, so i work with computers really, sysadmin and network.Computers are tools too, but i understand too much young people use stuff,very few to care about to understand how they work or how can be fixed. There is nothing bad relative to manual labor, but we all need to know what skills will be needed to carry ourselves in the next future, industrialization eliminated manufacture, and automation will eliminate a lot of jobs,to protest will change nothing . In my room, three youngs are studying for careers relative to programming etc. The bad thing, they are living with women before having a foothold in life...one of then was planning to marry and will be fired soon, the other three don't appear to know what they came for.Some never had a father figure, some come from broken families, so don't surprise me when a men who was raised without a father is himself involved with a single mother.I will never will be a father and and don't want that role, anyway, i just try to be honest , and sometimes caustic when dealing with people, mostly of them respect me or say i was a good reference, even a decade after, so maybe i am doing something right.
About the car stuff, i am no blind to basics of mechanics, and at 15 i was trained for machining , but was not the profession i landed. But by some irony i never cared to own a car and so this made me more 'invisible' for women than most of people. In Brazil, just buying a car costs something betwen 48,2% and 54,8% in taxes, and to fill the tank, with the mix of gasoline (73%) and ethanol (27%) , you will pay something like 44% of taxes.
And each year, you need to pay 4% from the value of the car to the gov, in a tax called IPVA...
I always understand cars in Brazil like some kind of expensive son made of metal, who eats a lot of money...

My dad is a handyman im every sense of the word, he can solder, sew, do plumbing and basic electric work. I admired him a lot for that. He always tried to get me to work with him and didn't make a fuss about me using his tools or fucking around as long as I didn't misplace them or hurt myself. Admittedly I didn't pick up nearly as many skills as he does but it's definitely a step or two in the right direction.
