Listen Karla, I celebrated my 30th wedding anniversary in December. I am not poor. In fact, my home is paid off. No mortgage. I earn well above the average wage for an American worker.

I have lots of female friends and I enjoy their company, especially in our gaming group. As individual people, I like most women I meet. I've also never been seriously emotionally hurt by a woman, so unlike many here, I'm not angry with women.

This probably leaves you wondering why I am here. It's simple, my wife is terminally ill. (Although in the past week or so she has taken a turn for the better, so I may not be losing her as soon as I had feared.) I have been obliged to consider how I will shape my life after she is gone.

I've looked at the shocking degradation of the cultural framework, and I've come to the conclusion that marriage, under the current conditions, is a terrible deal for men, so once she is gone, I decline to participate. It's as simple as that. The thing that I have a problem with is not women as people, but rather this legal and social system that leaves men at a terrible disadvantage at every turn. I'm not mad, I don't hate, I simply decline to participate in a bad deal simply because women expect it of me. I decide the course of my life, not you.

There's nothing misogynistic at all about a man saying "I have no interest in pursuing an emotional relationship with a woman." It is a perfectly valid lifestyle choice. I question whether it reveals sexism in women when they take massive offense at a man's legitimate choice.

Yes, I know there are guys here who have a lot of anger at women. What you fail to understand is that many of these men have been savaged by a system that views them as a disposable utility. For you to dismiss that as simply misogyny reveals a failure of empathy of monumental scope. You seem to imply that these emotions are not valid simply because it's a man expressing them. You are revealing yourself to be a misandrist.

I’m not misandrist. I am just saying way too many men on this sub hate women. I am really sorry about your wife. I do agree with you about how marriage is basically a death trap for men IF tou marry the wrong woman. We are not all selfish whores how many men on this sub paint us to be

Hi Karla, Thank you for your sympathy. You respond with empathy to my situation because, having lost your husband, you have an emotional understanding of what I'm facing. You simply don't understand the position these men are in.

Let me see if I can fix that. We all know that one woman who was molested as a child, then had one terrible relationship after another till she gave up. That woman will often say things like, "all men are pigs." Well, in her experience all men ARE pigs. It's not objectively true, but it is her experience of the world. You are just seeing the male version of that phenomenon. There are many men who have never experienced a mutually supportive relationship with a woman.

I have. I know what it takes to make that work. Unfortunately our culture has declined to the point where I believe it's virtually impossible to build that again.

It's not any inherent fault of women that this is the case. We become good and decent people because our culture expects us to, and punishes us if we are not. Unfortunately our culture has stopped demanding that of women, so they simply aren't developing that way. It's a huge problem that isn't going away any time soon

I really agree with you on the culture part . Society is pretty bad right now
