That's a valid point.
What I was trying to say is that an action like that could discredit the movement in the public opinion. For those unaware of the movement, this will be the first encounter, and it will be a negative one.
An average person would not stop to have an in-depth analysis of whether it is political, who paid for it, etc. They will just see the message that is trying to be communicated. If they perceive it to be a positive message, and see something spray-painted over it (with protestive intent) - this will create a negative perception towards whatever is spray painted.
It's like when you are having a discussion, you present and argument, and in response get a 'oh yeah? well fuck you', or 'oh yeah, well you're ugly'. It takes the discussion away from arriving to a reasonable conclusion, and makes it personal and offensive.
Since women attempted to level the playing field by curbing men's physical advantage, our new weapon of choice is reason and evidence. Thank fuck we're better with that too (and, by the way, not because of some uncontrollable genetic innate ability). In my opinion, this is why organisations like FEMEN are a fucking joke, and less influential than they could be. They protest by flashing their tits. Imagine men protesting for their rights by helicopter-dicking across the main streets of London.
Coming back to the billboard example, this is exactly why I think it's important to be careful when spreading the message of the movement, and why I think something like spray-painting would be seen as vandalism. If you were to bring up an adjacent billboard, you would be playing their game, and winning at it. You are forcing them to make a move. If you spray paint, they would probably just leave it there for the movement to self-destruct.
If we were to compare feminism and MGTOW as movements, MGTOW has a focused message and purpose, there is determination. Whereas with feminism, women can't even decide (surpise-surprise) what the fuck it's about. Some are saying it's about equality between men and women, some are saying it's about equality between everyone. They spawned about a dozen different fucking directions and definitions, and still don't know what the fuck they are about, or what they are doing.
I once had a conversation with a feminist, and when she told me feminism is about equality between everyone. I asked her if she just completely dismissed the legitimacy of the LGBT and other movements like disabilities etc. I then asked her to google 'mainstream feminism' and see the results. Before she did, she told me that google remembers my history, and will bring up corresponding anti-feminist results. After she googled it, in a typical fashion, she started saying that feminism is not really about that. I told her that neither the movement, nor society cares what the fuck her opinion or definition of it is.
This brings me to my final point, that the definition of a movement is defined by actions associated with it, not what you choose to believe it represents, or its definition in a dictionary or a wiki page, so we must take care of how we choose to spread the message.
