I decided to treat myself today and went to a local Mexican food restaurant for supper. Everything seemed normal enough at the beginning. The youngish sorta attractive waitress seated me, I ordered, and said thank you. Looking around I saw the usual lot expected. Couples and families made up the crowd other than me. The couples all had the same thing going on. The woman is really putting on the charm and the poor guy is falling for every bit of it. The families where mostly the women acting all bitchy and the men where doing what the could to try to make the woman happy. Sadly, some of the families it was obvious that the man was completely broken. It not a new site for me. See it every day.

Being a solo guy eating in a restaurant is nothing new to me. I put in earbuds and started up a audio book that I have been listening to. My food was brought to me. The waitress seemed to be confused by my wearing the earbuds, but didn't say anything and went about her job.

I proceeded to just relax and enjoy my meal. Soon I did become aware that I was getting looks. The looks mostly seemed to be from the women. And those looks had angry tone to them. Like my dining alone and pay no mind to them upset them. I would just smile and nod when I noticed them and go back to enjoying my meal.

The waitress had come by a few times to check on me I would remove one of the earbuds so I could hear her. I was polite but I really didn't engage in small talk. The last she came by to see if I wanted another drink she seemed really bothered by my having earbuds in. She smiled real big and asked me what music I was listening to. I told her I was listening to a audiobook. Didn't elaborate any more than that. That answer seemed to completely throw her off her stride. She actually said uhh what? I smiled and asked her for the check.

I finished off the last of my meal then sat there for a few looking about. By this time, I was getting more dirty looks for the women. I just smiled and nodded the down. Paid my check and walked out chuckling.
