This is today's thing that a lot of young people are doing and it is an excellent choice, IMO. I personally know 3 young people who graduated High School and chose to go into the military service. College is not the way to go out of high school. Your parents or teachers or counselors "right thing" for you to do is not relevant to today. It is what they knew to be the right thing 30 years ago. That is, you graduate HS and go to college or you are a loser. That's what they all did and the military was not even allowed to speak to the students back then. They called them baby killers and spit on them. Choosing to go into the military after HS is a good choice.

University is excellent if you've got a passion, a vision & know how you'll use your qualifications to further yourself.

However if you're not really sure, don't waste your time sitting in shitty lectures about things you don't care about.

Do NOT, I repeat, NOT use other's opinion for things you know best.

One way or another regret will come IF YOU DONT go your own way!

We live in a new world, where you should make use of other's factual opinions. But make your own decisions.

If you see a good offer, meet a NAVY at their work (ask) and possibly got a trusted second opinion (from a male friend!).

Always regard solutions to other alternatives. Not illusions.

I went to a fancy east coast university 25 years ago... worked great for me... but I think in today's world going military is a great plan, in many ways superior to going straight to college.

Get some adventure in, maybe see some of the world, do some "real" work, bond with your brothers in arms... and after a few years if a military career isn't enticing, leave with some saved money and go to college with a specific major/career in mind.

I'd say, though, to be careful to NOT get married or get anyone pregnant while in the military. That's not a good path. Probably never a good path, but doing it while a young soldier negates pretty much all of the benefits/advantages.
