I was once that guy and even though attractive women claimed I was "so much more important than the random schmoe that nailed her in the back seat of his car" the truth was, I was just there to serve as their earpiece, for them to unload a bunch of emotional bullshit that no one else felt like putting up with.

This happened to me as a teenager. Didn't know about this dynamic back in the 90s, but now it really makes me disgusted, not so much in myself, but that she knew what she was doing at the time.

Yes very true, this is even good advice when not going MGTOW, but simply for a good mental health life. Many years I doubted myself wether I had no succes with women, but it is very simple, if you start out trying to be their friends first they will see you as that and not more, if you act like a potential sex partner you will either get shot down or have succes, the second option is always better. Note however that if you go you own way then all this does not matter.
