Bear in mind in those days wealthy woman had the vote but poor men did not. In world war 1 the sufferagettes organised the white feather campaign encouraging young men to go to an early death. Stories such as school boys and wounded invalided veterans were shamed into joining up. It was calculated a higher proportion of the sufferagettes ( a high proportion being wealthy women) had the vote than the common soldier (as poor men and men under 21 did not have the vote). After the war this was dismissed by a leading sufferagette as only occurring a handful of times. Typical woman walking away from the consequences of her actions.

This movie is now cringe inducing to watch as a MGTOW. Mary Poppins does nothing but bitch and nag throughout the whole movie.

"Kids, be careful, get down from there. Burt, don't act silly!" Burt and the kids needed to ditch her, she's a boring hag, AWALT.

I don't know what I saw in this movie as a kid. I thought it was awesome. It was way before I understood true female nature.

Link this to the sequel where the kids grow up and the girl is a jobless activist and the boy is a single dad, struggling artist, who is about to lose the house to the bank.

Mary Poppins was a homewrecker, but not in the normal way. She took the normal western values of working and saving and replaced them magic and prolonged childhood, but turns out that unless you do have magic you can't live that way.

Spoonful of sugar indeed.

In terms of struggles in the movie the biggest one by far is Mr. Banks having to make the parade to be fired by his boss (to the tune of Feed the Birds).

In contrast the kids biggest problem seems to be not having enough fun or something.

Oh yeah, I only noticed this when I rewatched it a few months ago.
