Realise, through practices, what destroys ego, your sense of self, to attain a perception of what buddhists call no-self. That's why life's greatest difficulties often come as a blessing. I think it's what Jesus meant by being poor in spirit. So much unnecessary struggle just comes from being full of ourselves. Ego is big and burdensome. Make it small and light, so doesn't weigh you down, so that you can just get on with doing amazing things in your time here.

dont be above things. remember that you dont deserve anything. so if all you can afford is thrift store clothing and a little meat for dinner remember that some child probably made that shirt and something died so you could eat. besides being, or appearing to be, someone who isnt "doing well" will keep away the most toxic types of people; those who are lost in a wholey capitalist system. who are unfulfilled while others far away suffer immeasurably to provide for them. keep your group small. for we are all alone, at birth and in death, so by having just one true friend it is an amazing thing.

So many good ideas here. I'd add, learn to love the small things the best. That coffee in the morning. A book you happen to be reading, a loyal pet... going for a morning run... things like that. Once you obtain satisfaction that way, it's nearly impossible for it to be taken away for long.

Inner peace and contentment with one's self can be achieved much easier when you learn to let go. There is absolutely nothing to hold on to.

For me, late night walks with an iPod filled with audio books. It's difficult for me to find time to sit down and actually read a book. But I will make time to walk alone. And I can devour books this way. I am reluctant to use the category name of "Self Help" books (because most of them are shit). But a few of them are simple, clean, honest, direct and can impact you deeply if you allow it. I'm talking about books that ask you to "confront your inner demons" (for lack of a better phrase).

Autobiographies of men who've accomplished much despite obstacles are also great audio books. Example: Schwarzenegger. If you are opposed to his political career, don't let it stop you. He had an extraordinary life filled with many amazing accomplishments that any man can relate to.
