My wife got the dogs in the divorce because it ended up getting crazy expensive to keep fighting for them. If I had to do it over, I'd have taken the dogs with me when I moved out. She had the dogs the whole time during the divorce, so she really wasn't fighting for them. She just had to refuse to give them to me (or let me see them at least) unless a judge ordered her to do so.

Sounds fake, why would she get the dog? Would she also have gotten his children (her stepchildren) if he has any prior to the marriage? If it's treated like an object which sounds likely it would also be pretty clear he owned it before marriage and even then wouldn't an observer see the dog likes him more then her?

My Mother did this to my dad after her lost his temper and swore at her in a parking lot. The next day she took the dog to the vet to be put down so when he returned from work the dog was gone... dead. He never lost his temper with her again (probably coz next time it would have been me being put down).
