After being a part of this community for a little while now, and some thinking especially after Bezos being divorced, I have a serious question and I can't seem to answer it. What reason is there for a guy, in this day and age, to become married? I can't find an answer to it. I mean, you can say so he can spend the rest of his life with his true love, but you can do that without marriage. The only legitimate answer I can think of is the tax incentive, however, with marriage ending in divorce at a 50% rate (and seeing my own parents go through 2 divorces of their own) and the burden it takes on the guy in court with losing half of everything you own, and child support if you have kids, I don't see a point to be married at all. After thinking about it, it seems like something that started off with good intentions through the Judeo-Christian idea of being with one person that is your soulmate forever, but as time has changed it's now a way for companies to make a ton of money. From an expensive wedding where you pay for a DJ, catering, open bar, a private event location, the wedding dress, the engagement and wedding rings, and the honeymoon it just doesn't seem worth it financially to me. I'm only 22 but maybe my viewpoint of this will change, but if I found someone I knew was the one, I wouldn't want to put us in debt or put us in financial struggle because of a wedding, I'd rather go out and travel with them. Thoughts?
