Thoughts? There is no reason to be married. Marriage is basically a contract that is about the family. People want to reproduce. Someone has to provide resources and protection(the male) and someone is to get pregnant and do the child rearing(the female). Before the men kept their assets, now women get their assets. Why? Because the point of the man getting resources was to support the family.

So in modern times what do we see? The man plays the same role but the woman is granted access to his resources even if he is denied the benefit himself. The end game of humanity is accomplished. What people do is they get married when the woman either gets pregnant or when they have that emotional high(love). The issue with the wedding depends on the woman. Some want the big day because that's what they were letting you fuck them for. Others may just do a small little thing and favor a honey moon instead.

Divorce is simply placed on "Not finding the right one". Fact is humanity just wants people to tow the line and shut their brain off. So in the eyes of many, simply not ending in divorce is a "successful and happy" marriage.

Also, people want to protect women but want men to "take risks" under the guise of masculinity. That's why they support giving women everything for her benefit but at the same time, want men to place themselves in the line of fire.

If you really want this question answered, ask a woman what benefit there is to a guy for marriage. Here are some of my favorite answers (and my rebuttal):

He knows he'll have a family.
No actually he doesn't. All he knows he has is a commitment that only he is required to hold up to.
It proves that two people truly love each other.
Then why is there divorce? If you want a ceremony to be proof of love, then do a marriage ceremony without filing any actual paperwork. No need to get the government involved in your "proof of love" right?
It's beneficial to share costs. You get a tax break and you get health insurance cheaper.
You do get a tax break, but you'll easily blow through that with the cost of insurance for your spouse. The only way it's "cheaper" is that she once had to pay for her own health insurance, but now you get to pay for it. Also if you get divorced after having kids, it will almost certainly fall upon you under court order to provide health insurance for your children through your job. She will not be held to that standard.
Its acceptable to society. Shows you're a real family.
Oh please. More and more "empowered" women are getting credit for being single mothers and being shamed if they're housewives.

I could go on, but I think you get my point. :)

To have kids and provide a stable environment for them - that's the only good reason I can think of. It's certainly the only reason I'm still together with my wife.

In the past, marriage was much more pro-male. You were the master of your domain, your word was law and culture/society/religion/law was all set up to reinforce that. I imagine women were much better behaved back then (at least when men were looking).

Nowadays, all those supports have been pulled out and instead you have entire industries dedicated towards making women unhappy and dissatisfied with what they have. That dissatisfaction turns towards you, the husband, pretty rapidly. You become the problem holding her back.. if you'd just work harder, care about her more, provide more, spend more time/attention on her... maybe THEN she'd be happy!

Women never stop to examine themselves, it is always everyone else's job to make them happy and if they aren't, that means that everyone is mistreating them. Just look at feminism. 99% bitching over nothing and expecting the entire world to bend over backwards for women so they can feel happy - but they never do, there's always another complaint just over the horizon. Plus, husbands are portrayed as fucking idiots in every article, show, newspaper etc that your wife consumes, there is no real respect for a good solid upstanding man of the household these days.

So if you do get together with a woman and raise kids with her, make the kids the focus, and never expect anything except obnoxious, controlling OCD behavior from your wife, because that is what you'll get. The only sex you'll be getting is when she wants another kid, or lazy starfish sessions for her while she worries about the mortgage or dreams about upgrading the house... you are just a fucking tool to her. I advise working 60 hour weeks to spend as little time around the wife as possible, and take the kids out, just you and them, to spend time with them and instill good values. Just limit your exposure and when she talks, TUNE OUT. Otherwise she will get in your head and start infecting you with her constant unhappiness.

Marriage makes sense in the condition of you being lazy.

Marriage allows you to get theoretical legal rights "by default", which you can certainly get through other legal means.

Marriage means automatic parenthood, rather than having to adopt a kid. if you have a marriage with a single household income, then you can file jointly and pay less tax, which is irrelevant because you have to pay for a SAHM which is far more than the tax benefit, and if you're using marriage to help on taxes you don't know a lot about how to get around taxes.

Marriage is also useful if you're gay but for some reason want to pretend to be straight in public, so being married to a woman allows you to claim you're only flamboyant and not blowing guys in Central Park.

It also helps in making grand children. This is more for old people to deal with, since you can also solve it via adoption, but marriage is an old people fetish.

If you're under a delusion that getting married will help save civilization, that's great, do that.

Anything marriage does can pretty much be done via other legal means, so at best it's just for lazy people who would rather pay alimony than pay a lawyer to do it.

I think that you answered your own question, there really is no reason to be married.

One possible case is if you're a guy that wants to have kids. I still think that having kids outside of marriage is the better way to go but studies do show that for kids, especially boys, having a father figure in their lives has a huge positive impact and not having one sets a lot of boys back.

Marriage served as an institution that benefited the raising of children. Now, the state is a surrogate father figure for both mother and child and so men have been pushed aside from the family unit.

So, it may be a consideration if you intend to be a father, it's just that it's such a poor choice because 50%+ of marriages fail anyway. So you're really better off having kids with someone and living alone, never marrying, and then fighting for equal custody as the biological father, than you are being married and soon to be divorced.

This way the kid knows that mom lives in one place, dad the other, and that's normal for them. S/he should be spending equal time in both places. Much better alternative for men intending to be fathers. If you have equal custody then you shouldn't have child support, or very little, because you're doing your own share of parenting.

Why do men get married?

love--all your reasons are about rationality. Love is not rational, it is emotional.
Comittment-demonstrated comittment.
Children

Although you can have all the above without marriage, the marriage demonstrates this commitment of love. Men are more likely to do something for someone that they love in order to demonstrate that love. If fact, men are more likely to do something to demonstrate love rather than actually say 'I love you'.

Even modern marriage helps to co-opt men's tendency 'to do', and helps exploit him. Rationally, yes, there is no reason.

There are no good reasons for you to get married. -financial exposure is FAR greater than any advantage a tax incentive will give.

-emotional damage from female hypergamy and monkey branching/divorce/custody fights.

Dont do it. It's an antiquated institution that once served a purpose of creating a nuclear family with defined roles. Not now. The last dying gasp of marriage as any sort of institution was the acceptance of gay marriage. Now all it is is an excuse to have a very expensive party with an open bar and mediocre chicken cordon bleu.

The only thing I can think of from watching friends get screwed over is that it only applies if you have children. It’s a choice between possibility of ending in 50/50 split of rights to your kids or if not married. Splitting up and the woman getting sole custody and you having to fight to get as close as you can to 50/50. Other than that I can’t see a reason to get married.
