I am in full support of free speech. As such, I hate what Reddit is doing. Conservative subs should be allowed to exist, as long as they don’t ban respectful conversation from opponents. As a species, we need to come together in vigorous and healthy debate, and not be torn apart by ideological divisions and partisanship

However, I do need to point out that much of conservatism - such as trickle-down economics and laissez-faire capitalism (not to be confused with the free market, which is an entirely different beast) - is nothing more than bunk and has been shown by science, history and real-world evidence to be wrong and often deeply damaging to civilization.

On the other hand, there are some things - such as private property, the free market, the nuclear family and strong societal prohibitions against premarital and extramarital sex - that have been shown to be true and needed and effective. But these do number in the minority.

As always, even the badly wrong can hold gems of truth that should be saved, and those proven correct will themselves have a need to defecate every now and then. There is no such thing as shit that doesn’t stink, and nothing is truly pure; it’s all just various shades of grey. What matters is where on that spectrum something is, and how strongly it strives to test itself (test for disproof, a foundation of self-correcting bullshit detection) and how enthusiastically it corrects itself when it discovers it is wrong.
