OK so this may not quite fit into the scope of MGTOW, but I do see A LOT of posts from people talking about how you should focus on finances to buy your own home, etc. etc. This is probably going to open a can of worms, but I disagree. To me, I see advantages in renting over owning.

I've lived in my apartment for 11 years. Sure, rent has gone up and I pay more than some mortgages. At the same time though, during my time here, I've had my entire air conditioner system replaced, the furnace fixed, the bathroom re-tiled when the old tiles were coming off. I've had my carpet replaced twice (Once when the apartment flooded), I've had a new refrigerator put in, plumbing work done, new garbage disposal, walls repainted, electrical work, and countless other things. All of these were handled in 24 hours or less. Guess what it cost me? Nothing but my rent payment. Sure you could say "Well you're halfway through a 20 year mortgage" That may be true but if I decide TOMORROW I want to leave, I can go in with 30 day notice, pay a small lease breaking fee if it's before my time, and I'm out. Not chained down having to sell the house, and all that other crap. THAT to me is freedom.

Now let's look at the other end. All of my male friend's are married and own homes. Of course all but ONE of their wives stay at home. So single income. They are CONSTANTLY throwing money at their homes. Yeah their mortgage is less than my rent in most cases, but one of my friend's air conditioning unit died this summer. Repair Cost? Over $8,000 dollars. It was 3 days before anyone could get out there because all the repair companies were backed up. Another friend's roof had to be redone. Repair Cost? Over $14,000. That's over a YEAR of rent for me. So the low mortgage payments didn't help them much did it? Home owner's insurance didn't help either. Because we all know what a pain in the ass it is to get insurance to cover ANYTHING. That's in addition to them paying the mortgage, paying property taxes, and in some cases, home owner's association fees. Those are just two of countless examples I could list. Let's not factor in that one of them has had to already move so he was paying double mortgage payments for a while, going through all the crap of fixing the house up for sale and hoping they can recoup some of that money they put into it when it DOES sale.

I could go on but that's my basic point. I'm sure there are advantages to owning a home. But since I'm single and live alone, I have no desire. I can leave at any time. I pay a one time flat fee every month and I'm covered for ANYTHING without the hassle of taxes, mortgage, home owner insurance, and more.
