The show's still good, but feels less "pure" than the first season. Rick's less of an asshole, there's a lot more meaningless filler dialogue, and less subtlety.

Rick's character is a supergenius with an IDGAF attitude; he does whatever he wants to whoever he wants. The only thing that can alter this attitude is apparently if his family is in extreme danger (like Morty falling into the time void), but even then it's inconsistent. He appears to care for Beth, but froze her for a year and also left her in the Cronenburg world without a second thought. The Rick in season 3 for example, cares about what people think is his opinion on Israel...he apologizes and accommodates a lot more, to people and subjects he should not be giving a flying fuck about.

There's a lot more of that pointless quipping you see in shows like Family Guy. It's not funny and it doesn't progress the story. It seems to just be there for lack of creativity from the writers, non sequiters to throw in to fill up space. There was almost none of this in the first 2 seasons.

Another issue is that the show feels a lot less subtle. The first 2 seasons had plenty of zany, comical situations, but you could also derive moral dilemmas and character development if you look closer. The ethics of assimilation, the morality of killing a killer, existentialism, Rick's impact on his family...it was there, but didn't take away from the other stuff going on. In comparison, season 3 literally has a therapist doing a 2-minute exposition explaining what's wrong with Rick.

It's still mostly a good show, but it's definitely different from the first 2 seasons, probably for the worse.

Pretty mediocre as you said. Most of the characters are ruined, the plots are okay, jokes are meh but sometimes give me a chuckle. A lot more focus on the family's relationship to one another.

This was the only animated TV show I liked since 2009. Too bad it ended on the first of April, 2017.

I bailed on the show. Sick and tired of the non-stop gay agenda. Guys kissing, one homosexual reference after another. Not for me.

I watched part of an episode it on recommendation, it's generally very bad and the opposite of funny. It's worse than the post-2004 Simpsons, complete crap. It's like pothead humor, but really bad. In conclusion, I don't like it :)

I wasnt a fan of rick&Morty. Some episodes were good, some were average, some were bad. Nothing to be phased about. The last season is actually pretty good though, I enjoyed watching the 6 episodes

I actually haven't noticed a big difference. It does focus more on the family though because of the divorce, and rick isn't much of an arrogant asshole anymore. The first 2 seasons had really heavy episodes that were deep af, like when Morty buried his own body. S3 has some crazy stuff but not as emotional anymore.

I stopped watching after s03e02. Way too many emotions for me. Like watching it because of the adventure and jokes. I don't want to watch a cartoon that has too much emotional drama.

I didn't know there were female writers until a few episodes in. Honestly it's just as funny as it was before. The sister is just getting a little more screen time now.
