Women don't have friends and they don't have loyalty, not in the same sense men do.

Men who are friends will hide bodies no questions asked, they may think it's fucked up and they may decide it's not really a good idea to remain friends after, but true friends will do favors like you wouldn't believe and be there for each other through hellfire. Women will abandon their female friends if they accidentally wear the same dress out and think they're being challenged in the looks department; they'd be hard-pressed to take 10 minutes out of their day to do anything more than a coffee run if there's somewhere else they'd rather be.

So, of course McGowen would abandon her 'friend' the moment it became convenient to do so, because they were never really friends... they were just people they could get things out of to each other, and fortune made things too one-sided for the relationship to continue.

Just because women form relationships with men for resources doesn't mean 'the sisterhood' doesn't work in a similar fashion just with a different currency.
