Not sure what people mean when they write “dating”. I had various girlfriends (females I had sex with regularly). I guess that’s “dating”.

I never did any of the other shit I read on here, like simping or buying them free food or other free stuff. Not once.

Dating apps changed everything. In the past, the only guys college women knew where the guys on campus. But thanks to apps, a hot 18 college girl can meet a successful guy, maybe around 28, with a car, condo, money and so on. So men on campus with no money have to compete with successful guys. A city full of successful guys, not just other guys on campus. So women have options. Women are attracted to guys with a job and money. Successful guys. Young on campus or just graduated don't have that.

Women were woman back when I was 24. They were slim, feminine, untatooed, unpierced, approachable, didn't shave their eyebrows then use crayons to draw in something that only would look good on Spock or Brezhnev. They had soft feminine voices-no scream-talking, no croaking, no fake hip-hop gangsta accent, and no upward inflection on every word that turns every? word? into? a? question?. Plus most women, even the 6s & under, made some attempt to look attractive whether they wore t-shirts and jeans, or shorts, or skirts. Back then if a woman had short hair, was overweight, wore no makeup, she was almost certainly a lesbian.

It's so tough for young men and teenage boys today. It must seem that society, politicians, educators, parents, MSM, business leaders (not to mention the woman-empowering simps and cucks) are all against young men today. As a middle-aged man I should be looking at girls in their 20s wishing I was young again, but most of the time what I see out there is disgusting and I think "Those poor poor young men and what they have to deal with today."

I am so glad I was young decades ago. 80% of young women today are overweight, and 80% of those are disgustingly obese. AFAIK, the the term MGTOW didn't exist back then and neither me nor any of my buddies even considered it. Single unmarried men were just called bachelors or eligible-bachelors. Eventhough there certainly was peer pressure and societal pressure to find a girl and get married, and I did buy into that rhetoric for a while, I personally never saw marriage as something desirable. Even as a kid the joy and happiness at weddings seemed artificial and a sham, because I would see the couple a year or two later and all that happiness was missing and was replaced by the woman unnecessarily bossing and nagging at the husband, with the husband turning into a 'yes dear, sorry dear" wimp. As a kid I really didn't see marriage as appealing, and that view stayed with me since then.

I am in my 40s and I have friends who are married. Most of the aren't happy, some of them seem to be ... but I suspect that will change.

The hardest part is that some friends are falling apart after marrying. So they don't have so much time and other things. In your age group you'll have more contact with (past) friends and colleagues. That will change when they do their things. Embrace for the impact of having more time of yourself and do "entertain yourself" or use your free time.

You have to do your own thing. Take some hobbies, take a mission (e.g. a degree or a skill) and you'll be fine.

And most probable it gets mainly harder for (older) women to date. Men will be impacted too but not in that way.

well, I grew up without a father so I had no clue what was happening around me. I didn't understand how to deal with women. I was fed lies left and right. Nothing made sense to me. Women saying one thing but then doing other things.

I even ended up in a long term relationship with 2 kids.

I thought true love would be eternal and after the 4th time that i got tricked and abused and fell to this bullshit story, i just realized that something is wrong fundamentally and that dating is mostly just a ice cold business. Evaluate any serious relationship on a long term basis. One thing is for certain and that is people can and do change. You will never know anyone 100% so you have to protect yourself in the long run. Divorces for men are horrific and a judge can basically do whatever they want.

65 YO here. Dating was easier back then. It seemed more fluid back then. Maybe that’s just my situation though. Back then, marriage was expected of you and was a natural progression like Boy Scouts or hunter safety. You just did it. My first serious relationship collapsed when she cheated on me. I moved to a more culturally progressive area (Pacific NorthWest). It was still easy but not as easy as before. The ‘81 recession hit and I was jobless for 4 years. After getting a trade I was living life again but discovered women were far more difficult. If they were a (relatively)$good deal they had high standards like no tradesmen, own their own home etc. If they weren’t picky, they were single mothers with a drug or alcohol problem. I met a nurse and initially it was great. After she reeled me in reality started. After 6 months cohabiting I knew I made a serious mistake and ended it.

Since then, I’ve quit dating. I drink coffee at an unusual coffee shop with an outside patio. A bunch of us go there regularly and sit around and BS. We are predominantly blue collar with a few white collar types. We are all ages from 25 to 80. We are all types from all political orientation. We are civil about our differences but all agree about one thing: Don’t get married. Even those presently happily married (seniors) state if their wife died they would not remarry. One guy, with 5 kids and 2 exes said he would never marry again. These are men with a lifetime of experience.

You are right. Dating and marriage has gone to shit. I’ld love to live a 1950s type ideal marriage with kids, white picket fence etc but that’s right up there with becoming king of the world. People will look at you funny, being single and wonder if you are gay. They will also look at you funny when you show up in a nice truck, sports car or different motorcycle (I have 3). Dating gets harder but living gets easier. Just learn to ignore the dickheads but be a gentleman about it. Didn't date until I was 30 in 2014. It was at least possible to get dates via online dating if you had at least a half decent display picture. It has gotten exponentially worse in just a few short years.

The dates were fun until they all too frequently turned into women complaining about exes or other men. It felt disrespectful.

Surprisingly, pretty much every woman I dated offered to pay for themselves. Then again, everything we did on the dates was low key and inexpensive and was mostly based on conversation and walking around downtown.

It was fun in some instances but not worth the effort. I discovered more than anything that what I was really getting out of dating was that I, the once awkward mildly Aspie kid, would not only lead an intellectual conversation and be interesting to others, but also be funny and sought out by others for company. I liked the validation, especially from women.

I got what I wanted out of it and now I'm all done.

Women weren't all that much better in my hometown in the southern US when I was dating in the 80s. They looked better and you rarely saw the rainbow hair, tattoos, piercings, smoking, or any of that.
