Heh nice. I don't know about common law countries but I'm glad with legal system in my country with this case. In Polish Family Law inheritance and donations usually are never part of the marital fortune. Only bequeather or donator may change it, by declaring that "Oh I give you 100.000 USD as donation, but it's for you and Karen" or in testament "I give to Josh and Karen 100.000 USD".

Nevertheless I would hide it. During splitting of fortune in civil court there is asumption that everything is part of the marital fortune. So if our "Karen" will include this 100.000 USD you must prove in court that this is part of your own fortune and it isn't a part of the marital fortune.

I know that Poland have different legal system etc. but I assume that someone will be interested from the legal point of view, even from different legal system.

How did she even find out about it? If I ever receive a large some of money, either by the lottery or inheritance. I wouldn’t tell a fucking single person about it.

Is there some law that informs people if you do? Or is it like printed in the local paper of everyone who’s received a large sum of money recently?

Better to "gift" when the donator is still alive. We are doing that now that our grandmother is near 90, to avoid her son and his puta wife to get any of it. Anything of value gets gifted to the grandkids.
