What I got from that article was that brute strength wasn't so important anymore because the focus of fire departments has largely shifted to medical calls.

Only problem I see with that is that it doesn't actually mean anything in context: if 4% of your job requires you to be in top shape, and you don't have the option to not do that 4%, then you have to be in top shape all the time. It doesn't matter if it's 4% or 94%, you still have to be able to haul around that heavy-ass hose.

Seriously if I needed help from fire fighters. I want them to be men as if a woman is struggling to lift basic stuff, I could die and I think women themselves would want men to save them than women fire fighters who could be slower / struggle to get to them in time.
