Yes, and in more ways than one to be honest. I'm sure a lot of us are familiar with the silent treatment, that is pretty terrible when you're still in your BP days, while you are busting your ass and ruining your mind trying to fix things rationally as adults are supposed to do otherwise society would be a constant war zone, talking to a wall because as a rational being you're a damn problem solver, and not a problem creator.

And yeah, the only way they even manage to function in their day-to-day life is by hiding their mistakes instead of admitting them and working on them, which is also to avoid a ridiculous amount of cognitive dissonance once they notice that the story they tell themselves and reality don't match at all and people around them knowing this would remind them of that constantly, which "isn't good". It's kind of sad, seeing people so afraid of their responsibilities and of having to second-guess themselves and their choices that they just get rid of any possibility of REAL progress (...and ironically they are often ""progressives"", saying how terrible society is towards them and wanting to force THEIR "progress" on others... God, hypocrisy is so beautiful.). And then others get blamed instead, of course, because you're supposed to be dishonest and avoid reality as much as them to protect these idiots and otherwise you're a [insert shaming language]. Yes, they are often THAT deluded and really think that in this context, it's different because [x] no matter what it's about.

Being afraid of people's reactions is one thing but if it was the only problem they'd just work on it or be smarter when doing retarded things to hide them better, but no, avoiding the problem completely and even denying its existence as a global rule shows just how fucked up their logic is. They're also afraid to hear people reminding them that they are trash, and not perfect princesses, and that actions have consequences in the real world that you can't avoid. There's a reason AD and other "magic pills" are so common and it didn't happen out of nowhere because of pure evolution and biology. They're fucking up their own psyche by living in two worlds at once without even noticing it, except that deep down you know when you're being deluded and when facts are against you, even if you don't give a damn about it. So they just run away from reality and the world is supposed to accommodate to it. As anyone familiar with mental problems will tell you, this is unhealthy as fuck. Worst thing you can do on the long term.

And of course it's also their weapon used to keep their "good reputation" among people and to avoid being avoided like they would be otherwise, sure, that much is obvious and true, I just wanted to go into another very real reason for this crap. It's not just in order to deceive others, it's also in order to deceive yourself, almost as importantly, because taking the weight of your mistakes upon your shoulders is just too much to bear, living in a lie that is avoiding reality at all cost is just so much easier.
