Most actors today are extremely feminine: narcissistic, worried about what others think, conformist, people pleasing nebbishes.
It used to be different. Lee Marvin grew up hunting in the Everglades, and was injured by Japanese machine gun fire invading Saipan. Ex sailors/footballers/physical laborers like Sean Connery, men with multiple Purple hearts who served in WWII and Korea like James Garner, coal miners and B29 gunners like Charles Bronson - these men were very different from todays crop of pretty boys.
The men I mentioned did actual difficult and dangerous thinks before acting, often dabbling with all sorts of jobs before winding up as actors. They were not soft like Ryan Reynolds or Brad Pitt, who are probably incapable of hardship, hard work and danger of the sort the men I mentioned thought nothing of.
This is a lot of the reason that actors used to portray masculine, alpha men - that's what they themselves were. Their confidence was obvious, and it came from knowing they could hold up against much worst than anything in Hollywood.
