Because half-truths are embraced as facts in modern society. There is a "pay gap" but not a "wage gap"; when you account for career choices and hours worked there is no significant difference in pay. Otherwise, women would be winning lawsuits left and right for discrimination. Doctors do have a huge pay gap, because men are far more likely to choose a specialization that is both high risk and high reward (i.e. Surgeon).

This "fact" of pay disparity was heavily misrepresented in the late 80s and early 90s so now you have three adult generations who for the most part believe in it. Truth of the matter is, based on college attendance, women should be surpassing men in pay. But, despite the fact that women are "more educated" than ever, they still tend to choose degrees that do not necessarily translate to better pay. Women also tend to work significantly less hours and are far more likely to retire earlier than their male counterparts.

Without even factoring in maternity time off, if you do the math, the average women will end up working about a decade less than a man, and will result in a net loss for the government. But, their consumer spending makes kind of this and in order for population to remain stable each couple needs to have roughly 2.2 children, so this loss is validated in the eyes of society. Not having children comes with its own set of problems. I live in Japan, so everyday I see what happens to a society that is in a population decline, and it's not pretty. Infrastructure was designed for expanding populations, so now Japan has to import blue collar workers from the Philippines and Thailand.

I also, do not plan on having children, but I don't begrudge or judge those who still choose to chase the American dream of a wife , three kids , and a white picket fence. I honestly just try to be the best person I can be, and interact with my small social circle and try to enjoy life.

Yet they completely run away when you ask why companies don’t just hire only women if they’re so cheap.

The thing is, they have to say there’s a wage gap or their fundamental man hating position, that all men are woman hating rapists and this made up “patriarchy”, intentionally underpay women because they hate them.

sadly it is pointless to proofe the opposide...like showing them that it is illegal to pay someone less or asking them for an single proofe or example who is not turning out as wrong after checking it.

Willful ignorance. When I first encountered the $0.77 on the dollar figure, I looked into it. A univariate analysis that doesn't distinguish between fields, experience, time off for babies, etc., will produce a figure that is more lopsided. However, when you dig in and see that they are lumping surgeons in with SAHM as the basis of their "wage" gap, then you recognize the con.
