"I'm a man. Make me care about my society. My fate is tied to it, I understand that. But no amount of desire for self-preservation on my part can equal my desire to see everyone else suffer their own evils. The moment I have a child I have a stake in society. So I don't have children because I don't want to be a part of it."

This is why men, MGTOW or not, are choosing not to breed. Pop science says that women just want to make another vagina and that men just want to make another penis. I don't think this is true. Their motivations are different. Women breed to make children; it's cut and dry. Women, by and large, don't care so long as they get to reproduce. Look at the welfare state and tell me I'm wrong.

Men breed to support their society. This is why men are the determining factor, the reluctant party to have children, when a society begins to collapse. Men can sustain themselves easily. They need to be convinced to join society which takes the form of having a child. When they hate their society or are just indifferent to it, they become hateful/indifferent to having children which then translates into a hatefulness/indifference toward women in general. When society as they percieve it doesn't work toward some end that they wish to make manifest, then men won't support it by having children.

It's a lack of faith, or even an understanding of the lack of purpose for their society, that keeps men from breeding, protecting women, and everything else you would describe as the 'death of masculinity'. In my eyes, to be a man is simply to be responsible and men are, though only for themselves. Convincing a man to be responsible for his society requires him to want to be responsible for it; both in its current doings and its legacy.

As it stands, to take responsibility for this society would be like taking responsibility and so guilt for a great crime against humanity along with all the failures and debt of others. So men are opting out. It's not that there isn't anything in it for them regarding marriage per se. It's that there's nothing in it for them to take responsibility for the society they live in. Think of Western society as a person. Why would you take responsibility for them?

It's not about some fear of raising a child IN this society, but rather an unwillingness to raise a child FOR this society. This distinction is everything and is the reason men are choosing not to breed.
