I discussed this in another post but this is actually quite interesting. Most women who are beaten to a pulp by abusive men, actually find those men most attractive. It means that he's not afraid of fighting anyone, even people who are close to him. Most women throughout history have always wanted the strongest and most physically superior men, because these men could be used by the woman as a weapon against rivals.
However, it used to be easier to get the high SMV warrior men paired with the high SMV women in the community back when women were part of an intact family/tribe/community. The strongest warriors/soldiers would pursue the highest SMV women. She could then sit back and these men would be vetted by the father and brothers of the women.
Now that most women are doing this vetting themselves, they have to devise ways to test men. This is why most domestic abuse occurs, the women are in perpetual shit test mode; constant pushing buttons to see how far they can get their men to go on the violence scale.
It is also a proven fact that these women will almost never leave their abusive husbands/boyfriends. Then there's poor beta bob who's buying his wife a mansion and diamond rings only to come home one day to find his shit on the front lawn.

Ironically, your average guy under 6ft can beat the shit out of the average guy over 6ft, I'm not talking about well trained athletes or anything like that just your average guy who works out and stays in decent shape. Being tall and being average height both have their advantages, but irl fights I see the shorter guy win 9 out of 10 fights. There's always the exception or two. Pro fights can go either way depending on the sport.
Women don't know why they're supposed to like taller men, they've just been brainwashed to do so by media. I don't know any guys that give a fuck how tall a woman is as long as she's attractive and nice.

5'8 guy here, my dad is 6'2, wouldn't change my height for anything. Clothes are readily available at every store, things like leg room and ceiling height are complete non-issues when buying a car, gains are so much easier in the gym, smaller center of gravity so you can topple the 6'+ lanklets like dead trees when they get uppity. It's great.
Being substantially tall in the 6'+ range would be nice if I was a pro athlete or model or some shit, but since I'm not, I wouldn't change my height at all. Plus it filters out the retarded women with the "6 foot only" lines too, because those are women I wouldn't waste my time trying to fuck even if I was 6'2 like my old man.

You said average on both, which doesn't really make sense. The average guy under 6' is in about the same shape, and the same experience level fighting (aka, none), as the average guy over 6'. It reality, its probably just wrong because if they are both average fitness, then the taller guy will win because he has more mass behind him. A 6'4" guy against a 5'8" guy, same fitness and skill, is a big difference in mass, reach, and leverage.
Now, a shorter guy with even just WEEKS (and especially months) of experience will do better than a taller guy with NO experience... absolutely.

Shorter people are better at grappling and punch harder from what I've seen in fights. I've seen a lot of fights irl, the average height guy typically wins. It's not a boxing match. lol It's a street fight. Also, I don't mean average as in ideal weight(most people are at least a light overweight now), I mean the shorter guys are usually stocky, idk but the taller guys typically are the ideal weight for their height. At the end of the day it really comes down to fighting experience and ability above all else. Personally, I'd much rather fight a taller guy than a average height guy. If they're good at grappling/wrestling it's hard to keep an average height guy off you especially if you're tall. The tall guy really needs to know how to use his reach and spacing.

If you're seeing fights, you're already not dealing with average people that only fight when really forced to in self defense situations.
Second, when you see a short guy even attempt to take on a taller guy, you're definitely not watching an average dude, but someone that trusts themself to take on someone larger than them.
Take random average people, the height will usually equal extra mass which is usually enough to overpower people. Insane people that fight at bars, clubs, parties are not average people.

Shorter guys look stocky in part simply because a shorter arm of the same diameter looks bigger in proportion.
Also, when shorter guys gain weight in muscle or fat, it is readily noticeable because it is spread over a smaller surface area.
Body weight and even lifts scale to the body size. So pull up is easier if you are lighter with shorter arms. A bench is also easier if your arms are shorter and you have more leverage.
However, things outside the gym that don't scale with the person's size show that taller men usually have an advantage. For instance, in a strong man contest, they do not adjust the height of the pedestal that the stones must be lifted to. As a result, the taller men have an advantage. In a mundane example, my male cousin is 5'2" and can do like 30 pull ups and probably 100 push ups. He can bench much more than me also. However, he can barely pull back the compound bow that I can shoot for an hour straight. This is a compound, so the draw length is set and does not scale to shorter arms.
Everyday life, and maybe fighting, are a combination of things that do and do not scale to the body as size changes.
It seems part of what you are saying is due to it being rare for someone to be very tall and also noticeably large in proportion. However, I think you'd be surprised how strong a man over 6' that works out actually is. A 6'2" guy with 16" arms will be stronger for most tasks than a 5'7" guy with 16" arms. The shorter guy will look jacked as fuck though.
